Invitation Assembly, Part II

March 4th, 2011 @ 9:43 am by Ms. Sloth

When we last left off, I’d ordered our envelopes, liners and Moo Cards, and card stock, I’d printed out my invitations, RSVP cards and labels, and I was getting ready to assemble the invites.

But before I did that, I had one more thing to take care of: the RSVP cards. Using a UV Black Light pen that I ordered from eBay, I wrote the individual names on the cards. That way, if someone forgot to put their name on their card, I could still identify it without calling everyone on our guest list!

I also handled the extra guest issue (I hope!) with a special line on our RSVP card that says “___ out of ___ are excited to attend.” I wrote in the number of invitees in the second blank space so that our guests will know if they are allowed to bring their kids, a date, their second cousin’s mailman’s hairdresser, etc.

And we were ready to go!

After applying postage to the RSVP postcards, I tied it and the invitation up with pink baker’s twine, and then tied the Moo card to the little package:

I applied the wrap-around labels to the envelopes, and put the twine-wrapped packets inside.

And then, I hit the only true hiccup in the assembly process when the envelopes wouldn’t stick! The glue must’ve been bad, because it didn’t adhere at all. Luckily, I had some glue on hand, so I had to glue them shut.

To cheer me up, Mr. S said that at least I wouldn’t die from toxic glue like Susan, George’s fiancée on Seinfeld:

Thanks, Mr. S!

After we glued the envelopes shut, we placed our King and Queen of Hearts stamps on them, and they were ready to go!

This might sound stupid, but could you explain how you tied the twine around the set? I have twine for mine as well and I’m having the darnedest time figuring out how to tie it without bending the edges of the paper inward or making it look sloppy!

@ohheavenlyday: I don’t really have any advice. It was mostly trial and error. First, I wrapped the twine around horizontally, and tied a knot in the back, making sure to pull it tight enough but not too tight. Then I wrapped it around vertically and tied another knot around the horizontal string. Then I attached the Moo card and tied a bow.

It didn’t come out as neatly as I’d hoped, but I was at the point where I just didn’t care.

I licked all 83 of our envelopes, and complained to FI that if I died it would be his fault for not helping me. He reasoned that on Seinfeld it was George’s fault because he picked the cheap envelopes, whereas I had chosen mine, so it would be my fault if I died. Thanks sweetie.

Ours didn’t stick at first either, but I just put them on the bottom of the pile and then they did. They just needed a minute.

Love your invites!

Awesome! I love the envelope color your chose and the way you laid out your RSVPs. We did the same thing to try and make things crystal clear for our guests. ;)
