Mrs. Magic's Picture
Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NC Age and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Researcher Engagement Date: December 1, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Barn at Valhalla About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!
About Mrs. Magic

OK, I swear, I will not post every piece of milk glass that I buy, find, or receive as a gift (hint hint HINT). But just a few more photos because it was such an exciting day!

After my last trip to the flea market, I learned that prices vary a lot for these coveted containers—anywhere from $1 to $45. I knew one woman had a dollar table with a few pieces (and said she’d have more in the future), but everyone else was charging at minimum $4 a piece. That’s not a lot, but when you think I might need at least 60 pieces, it does add up.

So the other day I went first to our local PTA thrift store. I found one large bowl for $8 and bought it, possibly because I had not drunk any caffeine yet and was not thinking clearly. Headed to the Goodwill…nada. So I drove out to the flea market, where all my dreams came true!

My lady with the dollar table had NOT added any more milk glass as she had promised, so I moved on. I found some great deals, some for $1 or $2, which bolstered my confidence that I should hold out and look for the cheaper ones. I asked one guy who sold me one of the best pieces why it was only $2, and he said, “Well, I just want to get rid of all this stuff.” Works for me!

And finally…

How cute is this one??? Just one small problem…

Uh yeah, not sure how I did not notice that this was part of a lamp and not a container. Don’t fret, I’ma glue it on a saucer and put another container inside to make sure the water doesn’t drain out.

Isn’t it funny how, when planning a wedding, you (OK, I) get sucked into things that I never knew or cared about before? I was so happy hunting down these milk-glass containers, and it kind of surprised me!

Have you been surprised about how much you enjoy something in your wedding that you never previously thought about?

I love milk glass and also have a small collection . My excuse is the wedding but I just love it. I started researching all white glass and learning about depression glass. I think it sparked an addiction in me! Anyhow, I also picked up two lampshade for the ceiling when looking for mason jars (not milk glass obviously) I didn’t know they were lampshades. FI pointed it out and laughs everytime he sees them. I said, well, they work for candles! lol.

HobNAIL, not hobnob! Thanks to @kirabee for enlightening me. Although really, hobknob I think makes more sense…. :-)

I totally did this when I was looking for mis-matched vintage glass containers for candle holders, ended up spending like, 5 bucks on some bc I just wasn’t thinking! And then a few I didn’t even use!

I am also hunting down milk glass vases, I found a cute antique store yesterday that had a wee little one that would barely hold one rose bud. It was just so cute that I wanted it…until I saw it was $19!

I have always like milk glass but since my engagement I have become obsessed and now take a weekly trip to both the goodwill and the St. Vincent dePaul thrift store. The thrift store always puts there glassware 1/2 off the last week of the month. I picked up 6 pieces (three hobnail) for 25 cents apiece!! I plan on decorating my house with them after the wedding. Good luck on your search!

Hahaha, I’m glad to lay on the education! I’ve been fooled by that hobnail lamp shade before too! Maybe you could use it on your guestbook table to hold pens so you don’t have to worry about water. And I love the hobnail footed bowl.. so cute!!

Hi There. Not sure if you are still looking for more pieces but I have a lot of milk glass for sale for a great price. I used all milk glass vases at my wedding last month but sadly do not have any room to store it. Please see pictures and details at http://www.kevinandmaria.com/Wedding_Site/Sale.html and let me know if you are interested in any of the pieces.
