Mrs. Pancakes, New York/Costa Rica Age and Occupation: 26, Law School Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Latin American Policy Analyst Engagement Date: March 12, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Casa Punto de Vista About Me: I’m a perfectionist with a big heart. I love a good laugh and firmly believe no one has ever regretted being prepared! My motto is “go big or go home.” I am incapable of doing anything in moderation, especially when it comes to shopping, TV, food and travel, and some would say wedding planning! The other half of this nearlywed team is a laid-back, adventure-loving, accident prone, sweetie from LA. He makes me laugh, is always down for an impromptu dance party, and totally indulges most of my hare-brained schemes. Now, in my final year of law school, we’ll be spending the spring abroad in Amsterdam and planning a DIY, whimsical, detail-filled destination wedding in Costa Rica!
About Mrs. Pancakes

I am so blessed to have an amazing family. I was raised in a very traditional (codependent) family and am super close to my fam. I talk to my baby sisters every day, sometimes even three or four times a day. I also talk to my parents four to five times a week…did I mention we are uber codependent?

That being said, the family is GROWING!!

My baby sister has two a-mazing kids who are are going to be my flower girl and ring bearer. Our wedding is about a week before the flower girl’s third birthday, and the ring bearer will be about 10 months old. (Don’t worry, he won’t actually be holding any rings!)

Also, my very favorite cousin, who is going to try super hard to get to my wedding all the way from Malaysia, has an A-DORABLE daughter, who would be my second flower girl. She will be two and a half at the time of the wedding.

That being said, how am I going to get three toddlers down the aisle?!? At first I was thinking we could do a wagon situation. Flower Girl D loves nothing more than to pull her brother around the house…so she could probably handle it. I am not too worried about stage fright—she is quite the ham.

PLUS babies in wagons are super adorable!

I love this kid. He has the best hair. Who doesn’t love a cutie in a suit?

How much do you love the “Here Comes the Bride” sign? Also, doesn’t this baby look like an Anne Geddes baby? She looks like a little baby fairy; I am partial to babies in tutus.

As far as I can tell, there are two problems: (1) How would we get a wagon to Costa Rica? Maybe they have them there?? (2) Can you even pull a wagon through sand?? More importantly, could a three-year-old pull a wagon through sand?

If I can’t get this wagon thing to work out, I will just have one of the bridesmaids walk the ring bearer down the aisle. We have six bridesmaids and only five groomsmen, so it would actually work out quite well.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to get three toddlers down the aisle? What about sand-friendly alternatives to a wagon?

My brother in law is walking his daugther (my flower girl and niece) down the aisle - and depending on her mental state, possibly carrying her. It’s a nice way to include him in the wedding as well, since we didn’t have a place for him in the wedding party.

a wagon with big plastic wheels would go through the sand fine. the adorable narrow radio flyer wheels might have trouble in soft sand.
Will you have an aisle runner of any sort?
I like the idea of a bridesmaid carrying the lil one though :)

Maybe have their moms or dads carry them down or walk with them down? (Or maybe that’s what you meant). If it was not my kid, I would feel weird being told like “here escort this kid down the aisle and pick him up if he starts fussing.” U know?

One of those round “snow saucer” sleds would fit in a big suitcase, without adding much luggage weight, and pull easily across sand. You’ll need to tie a rope to one or both of the handles - but you could always put some flowers on itt.

We are *so* in sync, Pancakes! I’ve been wondering the same thing about our flower girl and ring bearer–down to the wagon idea! Ours are far too young to pull the wagon on their own so we’ll likely have one of the bridal party members do it (if we go that route).

Whatever you do, just remember that even meltdowns aren’t the end of the world. We discovered that my three and a half year old absolutely would not walk down the aisle on her own at our rehearsal. We ended up having my mom return to the rear of the church and walk her down the aisle since her grandma is her favorite person. She made it down the aisle (without throwing any flowers which is what she said she was excited about) and immediately started bawling when she realized that she didn’t get to stand at the front of the church with the bridesmaids. A family friend whisked her away from the ceremony and we continued on. Young children are unpredictable, so make sure that you have a backup plan and at least one person willing to leave the ceremony in case it is necessary.

We had two three year olds and a four year old. One three year old walked down with her brother, who was 6 at the time, and the other three year old and the 4 year old walked down with their daddy :) You’ll make it work!

That sounds difficult to pull a wagon in sand!! Whatever ends up happening though, it will be awesome because all of those kiddos are so freakin’ cute!!

You could probably arrange for the hotel to have one of these wagons, which are a Costa Rican traditional wagon.
