Mrs. Jaguar's Picture
Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Curzon Hall About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
About Mrs. Jaguar

But What Do I Do Now?

March 6th, 2011 @ 4:04 pm by Mrs. Jaguar

I appear to have reached a bit of a wedding stalemate.

We’ve got to the stage where we’ve booked a whole lot of things already. I’ve paid deposits out the wazoo for a whole lot of stuff, like flowers and music and stationery. I’ve got the big bases covered. I’ve done a tiny bit of crafty stuff, mainly my ribbon wands & card-box…but now what? The invitations have been ordered, so I won’t be doing those myself as originally thought. The honeymoon has been settled & booked, and my wedding band is sitting quietly in a drawer in our bedroom.

So…what do we do now?

The invitation addressing will happen later. The place cards, table seating charts & favours will also happen later – because I can’t do those until we have actual RSVP cards back. I can’t help but think I’ve missed a whole lot of MUST DO items, but can’t for the life of me think of what they are. These are the few things I’ve come up with off the top of my head:

  • Buy a wedding band for Mr. Jaguar
  • Sort out our Pre-Cana classes
  • Play with music ideas for the DJ and ceremony – strings? No strings?
  • Decide what transport we’re going to be using
  • Pick out wedding jewellery/accessories

And with that, I draw a blank.

Please, please tell me what big, obvious things I haven’t organised yet? I’d prefer to be overwhelmed with a huge to-do list, than be sitting here twiddling my thumbs and worrying about what I’ve forgotten to organise—especially since now, just a couple of months out, is the PERFECT time to get things sorted before the panic sets in!

If you’re a couple months out from your wedding, what do you have left to do?

My timeline has taken me WAY longer than I anticipated. I would definitely start working on that early.

So I actually wrote about this after the wedding - there was a ton of last minute stuff we could have taken care of earlier, but we thought we shouldn’t. We always knew we were going to have two-page programs, but we didn’t draft them until 2 weeks before the wedding and we forgot a bunch of stuff. You can also take care of small things, like signs for your reception, etc.

I also second practicing the first dance - that was a huge stressor that we left for the week before the wedding.

guest book? schedule for the weekend? you should hand out a schedule to bm, gm, ushers, immediat family, etc., so they know what to expect and where to be when.

Anything you have on your list to DIY. We were fortunate that our venue was an historical site that needed little to no extra decorations, but I did make our centerpieces. I also made the decoration for our cupcake/cake table, and our seating chart (once the rsvp cards were back) that took the place of a guest book. Wedding day transportation details like Kelly suggested, appointments for hair and makeup…

I’m definitely in the same place as you. We’re also getting married this June and although all the big stuff is done and settled, I can’t help feeling like I’m forgetting something. I’m starting to stressover the fact that I’m not stressed. Go figure!

I’m more than a few months away from the Big Day, and PULEEZE don’t take this statement as a judgment in any way, but my knee-jerk reaction to your “what-to-do-now” is to ENJOY this time! Keep the focus on you and Mr. Jaguar, and find opportunities to remind each other why you’re getting married in the first place! I think sometimes we b-2-b’s get caught up in the details of that one day, when we could be making wonderful memories of all the days that lead up to that one! I wish you the best of luck with your nuptials, Miss Jaguar, and hope that your day is everything you’ve dreamed it will be!

I am getting married May 21st and feel like I haven’t got anything accomplished! My fiance hasn’t even asked all his potential groomseman to be to be in the wedding or ordered his tux. He keeps telling me eveything will work out but it is stressing me out sooooo much! You sound like you are doing good! All of my family and my bridal party leave far away and feel so helpless!

I’m getting married June 25, and I just yesterday made a month-by-month to-do list. A lot of it might not apply to you since my wedding is at my mom’s house, but I hope it’s helpful anyway.

March:
Food/cake tasting
Meet with florist to talk decor
3/25: Start process of getting officiant license
Plan backyard lighting, sound
Pick salon

April:
Make honeymoon reservations
Plan chuppah
Get FI’s suit
Select FI’s ring
Select ketubah-like thing
Address, mail invites
Hire movers for furniture?
Look for shoes
Get hair ornament
Send rehearsal dinner invites
Double-check that officiant license is sent in

May
Pick guest book or alternative
Buy booze

June
Pester RSVP delinquents
Put together OOT bags for guests
Bathroom baskets
Figure out mosquito control
Get marriage license
Finalize music playlist
Talk to photog about what we want
Get whatever non-alcoholic drinks the caterers aren’t providing
Give final headcount to caterer

Well it seems that people have plenty of suggestions for you! I had the same feeling of “nothing to do”. It will pass (and alternate with feelings of panic).

@Kelly: Great list! I think we’ll work on programs soon - though we won’t know the exact details for those until our next meeting with the priest in April. So frustrating!

@Miss Hippo: I hadn’t really thought of doing a timeline, but everyone seems to rave about them - maybe I’ll mock one up. Thanks!

@edb: So that post TOTALLY describes me - thank you! I’ll definitely work on convincing Mr. Jaguar to dance with me.. it may take a bit of persuading! ;)

@amariem25: We’re planning on a traditional guestbook which won’t need a lot of work (hi, we’re lazy!) but a schedule is a great idea. :)

@MrsTimber: Hair & makeup is done, thankfully - but yes, wedding transportation is the next on our list. That’s turning out to be WAY harder than I thought it would be!

@Miss Giraffe: If we lived closer, I’d totally help out wherever I could, M. For shiz. :)

@KBrannan: First dance, definitely. We’ve lucked out and our bathroom space is all done, same with hair & make-up.

@Zoe: That should be fun! We’re not having too many out of towners (all Sydney-siders coming back to visit) so we’re not doing them, but they look fun to put together!

@DaniJ0716: I love the last point - we’re definitely trying to make the most of being engaged before the big day!
