The Sweetest Favor

One of the easiest decisions we’ve had to make is wedding favors. Because we’ve got a guy—a Swiss chocolatier, to be more precise! Mr. P’s mom worked with Neuchatel years ago. But the confection connection doesn’t end there. His brother, a New York chef and caterer, orders custom truffles infused with a favorite spirit, usually Scotch. Whooo—those things are potent!

Someone went to Neuchatel!

I wonder what’s inside…

Mr. P introduced me to the fan-frickin’-tastic chocolates by way of their chocolate-covered potato chips. Yes, salty and sweet in one snack! They’re like a drug, a very delicious drug. The chocolate is imported from Switzerland, the oh so delicious cream comes from the cows in nearby Oxford, and the potato chips are sourced from the Herr’s factory down the road.

Just a pound of chocolate!! Nom nom nom.

The only retail location is a short drive through the rolling Pennsylvania countryside. It’s just far enough away for us to make it up for holidays and special occasions…like Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, boat trips, my birthday, and sometimes just because. Lucky family members receive boxes of truffles, Swiss chips, and seasonal stollen. (And an extra container of Swiss chips for me…for the drive home.) I’ve likened visiting Albert at Neuchatel to going to the North Pole to see Santa. He’s always so jolly, possibly from all the liquor-infused truffles?

One guess which one of us did this.

The spread, organized by flavor and type:

Back row: gianduja, triple chocolate, sea salt caramel
Middle: dark chocolate, Scotch, peanut butter egg.
Front row: milk chocolate apricot and ginger, dark chocolate pineapple, pecan turtle.

So choosing chocolate truffles from Neuchatel as our wedding favors was automatic—not even a discussion was involved. For the quality of the chocolate and inclusion of packaging, you cannot beat three dollars per favor. Two truffles (milk and dark chocolate champagne) come with each box, but I think we’ll ask our family friend if we can mix it up.

The aforementioned Scotch truffles

My nose burns just thinking about them.

And my favorite, gianduja (hazelnut)—to DIE for!

Are you doing favors? If so, what type of favor are you thinking of? And what chocolate flavors would you love to receive??

@Mrs. Hermit Crab: I used to think chocolate covered pretzels were the best. And then I tried the Swiss Chips. Mmmmm.

@Krisstin & @Koala Bear: My own post has managed to make me crave Neuchatel. I’m a mess!

@GrayGirl: You’ll have to update us once you’ve tried them! I’m guessing you ordered the assorted box — would love to hear about which ones are your favorites. :D

@Miss Bacon: Now is the best time of year to order chocolate – it won’t melt or freeze in transit. Perfectly refrigerated and right to your door. (I would order more than one tin. So addictive.)

@Miss Crepe: I would have loved to used the Swiss Chips as favors; $8/tin was out of the budget. Hoping they’ll make an appearance in our welcome bags.

OMG you’re spending $3 per person? I can’t imagine what the rest of your wedding budget looks like. They do look amazing but is anyone going to know the “to do” about it enough to appreciate?

@BeautifulKatastrofie: Absolutely worth the stop. The store less than a mile off Route 1 so it’s easy to get to.
@Miss Tartlet: Heart dark chocolate. It’s so hard not to buy one (or two) of everything when we’re there. The shop smells heavenly.
@vttp926: They also have chocolate covered animal crackers and pretzels if your willpower hasn’t broken yet. (Aren’t I a stinker!)
@longlegsrule: We don’t have more than 100 guests so it’s not bad. It’s important to us and only costs a little bit more than anything else we’d have chosen. Mr. P and I are the “chocolate dealer” for our friends and family so they’ll know the significance.

You are making me crave chocolate and all I have a malted milk balls :(

We are doing cake balls for favors. Originally we were not going to do favors, but they have been asked for by so many guests that I totally caved.

I heart Neuchatel! I frequent that lovely little chocolatier WAY too often. I love when they sell chocolate covered strawberries (Seasonal)! YUM! You are going to have the BEST wedding favors ever. Did Mr. P’s Mom need counseling after leaving such a delicious dream-job? (Kidding…sort of)

I love the idea – in fact, was thinking of something similar myself! But I was wondering if they might not melt if the weather is warm. Are you planning on storing them or packaging them in a special way before giving them out?

@Miss Carousel: We’re stashing the favors inside. And I don’t think they’ll stick around for long once the guests see what’s inside!

@tender_loving_care: That’s awesome — I’ve never run into anyone who’s heard of them before. Have you had his blackberries in late August – OMG. I can only imagine how decadent the strawberries are. FMIL ate a lot of chocolate when she worked there!
@helenberrycrunch: Would you forgive me if I mailed you a tin of Swiss chips? ;)
