Mrs. Bacon, Chicago Age and Occupation: 26, Digital Advertising Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, IT Client Services Engagement Date: June 17, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Ravenswood Billboard Factory About Me: I'm a Midwestern girl that can't seem to commit to staying in one place for too long and is constantly daydreaming about my next adventure. I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.
About Mrs. Bacon

Lions and Rhinos and Giraffes, Oh My! : wedding chicago honeymoon Tahiti Tahiti-
Source

Whenever we talked about getting married before we got engaged, we also always brought up our dream honeymoon: Tahiti. Have you seen those photos? Those white sand beaches and over the water bungalows? OMG swooooooooon…

Obviously, when we started planning a honeymoon there was no question that we were going to save like crazy and make the honeymoon of our dreams come true.

But then I started to research what a week long relaxing honeymoon on white sand beaches would cost. I knew it was gonna cost a pretty penny, but man alive, that’s quite a few clams to be bored with sand in my suit. Then we started talking about what we could do with that kind of moolah; the adventures at our disposal if we took advantage of the trip of a lifetime.

Having met abroad, we Bacons have always been avid travelers. One of my goals is to visit 6 continents before I hit 30 and the Baconator is all about it. The only ones outstanding on my list are Africa and South America; he’s got those two plus Australia. We figured, we might be able to find a crazy internet deal for a trip to Belize or Chile over the next few years, but when in our lives would we be able to say “Hey, wanna go on safari?” and actually go? Um, now and pretty much only now.

The Bacons are buying a fancy schmancy camera, getting a bunch of inoculations, and going to South Africa! We still have lots of planning to do, but we know that we’re flying out to Cape Town the day after the wedding and spending 12 days exploring the area. We want to visit wine country, Boulder Beach that has real life PENGUINS, Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, and of course, safari because you can’t go to Africa without trying to see the Big Five.

We’ll be able to relax the first few days then head out for the big time adventures. Luckily, one of the Baconator’s friends from college is from Cape Town so we have a local helping us plan.

Did you have a honeymoon in mind then change it once you were engaged?

My hubby and I went to Tahiti. It was gorgeous, but SUPER expensive. The food was actually shockingly expensive. South Africa sounds amazing!!!! :)

That sounds incredible. Friends of ours went to South Africa last year and love touring/drinking in wine country.

Miss Bacon you are going to have the BEST honeymoon! My FI is actually from South Africa and I’m leaving on Saturday to head down that way. I’ve been before. Cape Town is amazing and those Penguins on Boulder beach are insanely cute! I’d also recommend hiking up Table Mountain and watching the sunset from up there, and heading to Cape Point while you are in the area.

You’re going to have SUCH a great time! One of my besties went to South Africa for her honeymoon (during the World Cup, no less) and had a blast. They also went on a safari and the photos I’ve seen are incredible. Yay!

That is amazing, I SO want to go to Africa! I was in the same boat as you with Tahiti though…I always thought that was where we would go but just couldn’t justify the cost. So we are going to Costa Rica and I get a new car sooner rather than later with the money we will save!

Ugh! South Africa was our dream honeymoon, and we had to let it go because we couldn’t afford it. We’re going to Italy now, and we’re soooo excited, but everytime I hear about other people going to South Africa I get crazy jealous.
