Telling me the secrets of wedding planning
One August day in 2009 I received an email inviting me to my cousins bachelorette party. I was never particularly close to this cousin. We grew up about 2 hours from each other and although we are close in age, she was more in my brothers grouping of cousins. (AHHH to be one of thirty first cousins.) So while I thought it was odd that I was on the guest list, there was no way I was going to miss an opportunity to party down in Boston.
That night I found out that my cousin and I are two of the same. exact. people.Right down to the Britney Spears obsession.
She also happened to be a member of the hive here at Weddingbee (although I don’t know her username) and encouraged me to apply to be a blogger after reading my personal blog. Well, I guess we’re not the same person—she’s a hell of a lot more detail oriented than I am. Everything was perfectly coordinated and you can bet your ass, I noticed and admired it all.
There was one sad thing that sticks out in my memory about her wedding. This is the part where I tell you a wah wah, shit didn’t go right, like it rained or something. It did rain. However, another cloud settled over the ceremony. The Priest who presided over her ceremony was in diabetic shock and was rushed to the hospital right after the ceremony. He passed away a few days later. I tell you this only because I find myself constantly worrying if someone were to fight at our wedding, or have too much to drink, or if I slip on ice, but really, that’s all pretty miniscule stuff compared to the loss of a life. Every now and again I find myself thinking of that Priest and slowly the little things don’t seem as important.

All of her details were green and black, right down to the candy she choose for the candy bar.

I totally stole this idea from her. Post coming soon!

This is the signage for the candy bar which asks guests to hold off from indulging until the DJ played Christina Aguilera’s Candyman. Everyone rushed the table when the song came on.

See the table linen, chair sashes, and flowers? Ugh, so perfect. I love it.

She had a faux-to booth before I even knew what a photobooth was.
Can you tell why she is one of my bridols? I might have even gotten kicked out of the reception for ahem, erm, uh, dancing on a table. It wasn’t my fault! One of my other cousins did it first. We Zebras are an unstoppable force of partying.

Finally we come to the last bride in my Bridol series, Zeb’s sister, Sissy. She was married July 2010 at the fantabulous Belle Mer in Newport, RI. That place is a damn dream.

HOT! That is how I would describe the blue skied day. It was the hottest day of last summer. We were sticking portable fans (thanks to my always amazingly prepared FMIL) up our dresses to keep cool. Do you see where this is going? The heat turned into an abrupt thunderstorm and boy was it bad. Have you ever been to Newport? Bellvue Avenue was so flooded that the water rose up to the curb. It only rained an hour! It was a crazy storm. Sissy never lost her cool though. She, “just wanted to party!” Apparently, Belle Mer was flooded (until about 10 minutes before we arrived) during the storm but the staff there is so top notch that we never even knew it.

Oh… hey there cruise ship. Don’t worry it moved in time for pictures.
I’m stealing a lot of the logistics from Sissy’s wedding for ours, right down to the nail and hair appointment timeline. I was able to salvage a lot of her baskets and unused umbrellas to utilize. Also, the midnight snack…. OMG the most delicious french fries imaginable—stole that idea too.
You know what I really love about Sissy’s wedding? It’s that Zeb really enjoyed himself, like really, really enjoyed himself. I think he has been looking forward to our wedding ever since going to his sister’s. He was on the dance floor the entire evening just plain out enjoying himself. Her wedding also motivated me to really kick planning into high gear and ::cough:: send in my WB application.
Thanks Sissy!
