About Mrs. Tartlet

One night while I was out with a group of my besties, the subject of the wedding came up, which naturally evolved into a discussion about my bachelorette party. At some point “The Thunder Down Under!!!” was proclaimed in a grandiose voice, which prompted everyone to dissolve into fits of giggles. Although a getaway to Vegas was out of the question, a couple of my gal pals pointed out that the fair city of Chicago is within driving distance! More dialogue ensued about the gyrating hips of half-naked men and how best to make me blush. At one point, someone turned to me and said: “Tartlet, what would you want to do in Chicago for your bachelorette?” I paused briefly to consider the question, and then chirped: “I’d really like to go to the aquarium!”

*cue crickets*

Fear not, there won’t be a “Flipper 2: Tartlet’s New Adventures” post in the future (although I did go through a phase where I wanted to be a marine biologist). I’m sharing this conversation with y’all because it brings up a good point:

Know thy bride. My three wonderful bridesmaids took the reins and planned out an amazing night of fun while keeping my comfort level in mind. They even sent me a teaser, inviting me to a girl’s night out to “try desserts, sip cocktails, share funny stories, and celebrate [my] maidenhood.” *blush* Did I mention that I embarrass really easily?

T-Minus Five Days to the Weekend of Awesome : wedding bachelorette party rochester 21 2

Although I was kept in the loop in general planning terms, there’s a slew of “secret details” that I’m not privy to. Combine that with the foreshadowing of “titillating surprises” and my bashful tendencies, and we have a recipe for some truly entertaining photos come Friday night. Saturday afternoon we’ll recover at my more subdued bridal shower:

T-Minus Five Days to the Weekend of Awesome : wedding bachelorette party rochester 3 3

My BMs ordered this invite through Wedding Paper Divas, and even selected a design that went with our wedding’s garden theme. I’m giddy with excitement, but also a bit nervous. Why the latter? You see (I’m going to let you in on a secret), I’ve never been to a bridal shower, much less been the guest of honor. Thankfully, the event will be small, but I’m a little anxious about what exactly I–the bride-to-be–am supposed to be doing. I’m usually more of a wallflower kind of girl, so the prospect of being the center of attention is a little intimidating!

This is going to the most epic. weekend. ever! Did you have a themed bridal shower and/or bachelorette party? What sort of mischief did your girls plan for your night out? Careful—you might make me blush!

My girls took me to Chicago for my party last summer too. They took me to the club that has a bachelorette only party with two male strippers who embrassed me as much as possible! Have fun!

Thanks for this post! :)

I just had to share…I have 3 BMs too and 2 of the 3 are also named Tanya and Laura. ;) Nice!

I told my MOH (and sister) that I wanted to go to NYC (as her and 1 of my other BMs live there)…

I had mentioned a cupcake crawl way back when to her too…but I’m not sure what the plan is actually, except that it’s supposed to be in NYC, we’ll prob. be spending the night and that it’s for April 9! :)

I can’t wait! :)

I’m more on the shy side than all three of my BMs too….so it’ll be interesting for sure. ;)

Good luck! Sounds like fun!

p.s. as for my shower…it was not only a surprise one..haha…but I’m not used to being the center of attention either….so having all those people there just for me..was a bit overwhelming. :/ Yet, I enjoyed the shower a lot and it was nice to see so all the family/friends that showed up. Plus…the shower is like a little preview to the attention that’s going to be had at the wedding! :) So..I’m tryin to get used to the attention now. ;)

Tartlet, I too am uncomfortable with being the center of attention but I seriously had a blast at my bridal shower. There’s just something about it that is so fun and not intimidating.

@Jessica: I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s feeling a bit nervous. :)
@Heather: *blush* I would be struck with an uncontrollable fit of giggles and have my head buried in my hands if my gals did that for me! Sounds like it was good fun, though!
@smiles1979: What a coincidence! Your trip to NYC is going to be amazing. I haven’t been there in forever!
@Miss Elephant, @Miss Ostrich: YAY! I’m glad you two had a fab time!
@soon2Bfournames: Thanks for the reassurance. :) I’m really looking forward to it!

I’m anxious for our parties because we are in a way breaking etiquette. See my MOH said she wanted to plan the parties, but then there was drama from my mom and my FMIL. Basically my MOH is friends with my FMIL and grew up in the same town, so she was looking at planning it there with the help of my FMIL and FSIL. Once the drama happened FMIL said the party was dead to her and wanted nothing to do with it.

MOH said she couldn’t handle it on her own (bad thing about having bridesmaids that don’t live in the same states & don’t know each other). So we stepped in and said if she would stay the host we would help by finding a venue & figuring out the food (she would do games & decorations).

In the end we ended up having to split it to two parties, one for his side and one for mine. She’s the host for the party on his side but technically we have no host for the party for my side. Oh well if people really get mad over that, let them.

As for the bachelor/bachelorette party, FI said right off he wanted a combined party. His BM is really busy and so is my MOH (she’s planning her own wedding for a month after mine). Since know one knows each other no planning was happening but everyone said they wanted their to be a party. So it ended up that we are planning the party.

This all works out good for me because I actually find party planning relaxing and being in control means my type A personality isn’t stressed. So my girls aren’t planning anything really but I think the parties will still be fun!

@Miss French Toast: Ahhh! Tanya *so* wants to go see that show, and I think she’s insisted to her husband that they do so on their anniversary trip (hehe)!
@beautifulkastrofie: It sounds like splitting your showers was a wise decision, and that everyone will be happier/more relaxed. :) Whenever family is involved, planning is definitely an adventure! Your parties will be a blast, I’m sure!

An aquarium trip sounded like a good idea to me. ;)

I LOL’ed at the Thunder Down Under part. My SIL and I have been teasing each other about going to that since our last trip to Vegas.

Love the website and the invites! Is the website used for the e-invitation free? If so, would you be willing to share what it might be? Such a cute idea! Offers ease and organization!
