I’ve written a few posts talking about the wedding day details that both Mr. Crepe and I love and are excited about. But it’s not always so easy and there are plenty of deets that were cast aside in the process. Lest all of y’all are thinking this process is cake for little Miss Crepe, I decided to share these with you.
#1: Guestbook Quilt

We haven’t figured out what to do with our guestbook but one thing’s for sure—we’re not having a guestbook quilt. This is probably my fault…I MAY have overwhelmed Mr. Crepe with the huge influx of ideas that I had at the start of this whole process. That’s my bad. When he heard that we had to cut out squares of fabric and sew them all together, he balked.
#2: Flags on Cakes

The first time I saw this photo of rustic cakes with flags on them, I was sold. How completely adorable is this photo?? When I showed this to him, I thought I was going to get a hells yes—he usually loves my quirky ideas and this wasn’t your usual flower topped cake. He paused and said, “I don’t get it. What do the flags represent? Freedom?” I was thrown by the question. What I should have said was that they represented festive partytimes. Instead, I asked what he thought should be on the cakes. “I don’t know. What about flowers?” Facepalm.
#3: Vintage Subway Posters

Mr. Crepe is a HUGE fan of McSweeney’s, which has brought the beauty of type into his life, so I thought he would love this completely unique and reusable piece of reception decor. We could fill it with quotes or special places to us and then, when the event is over, hang them in our home. I’m still not sure why he wasn’t into this idea, but after I thought about how large of a space we needed to fill, I realized this was too expensive a project to tackle.
#4: Macarons

Okay, this just about breaks my heart. Macarons are tiny cakelike cookies with a crispy outside and delicious fillings. They are so beautiful and come in a million colors and flavors! If we could get them, I’d get these bacon maple cream cheese ones. But they’re also quite pricey and too challenging a task to make them ourselves. Right now the compromise is making whoopie pies so when I make my visit to Nashville in a couple of weeks, Mr. Crepe promised me that he would help with a test batch. I suspect he is trying to trick me into giving up on cute sandwich cookies altogether by letting me wear myself out, but I will not be deterred.
#5: Vintage Stamps

Mrs. Cowboy boot did a great post on vintage stamps a couple of years ago and I’ve also seen so many people use them with amazing results on their invites. This was one of the things that I put as a MUST on my list of things to do but when I surveyed the list of projects I had given myself, I decided to give these the chop. But here are all the resources that I’ve gathered along the way so that maybe they’ll help you instead: if you want someone to match the stamps for you, here’s a great shop that sells them in color coordinated or themed groups. Also check out this post on 100 Layer Cake that tells you how to procure vintage stamps.
