Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
About Mrs. Hippo

I mentioned earlier this week that I did my first dress fitting when I was in Dallas last weekend. The bridesmaids’ dresses had also arrived, and three of my four bridesmaids tried on their dresses the weekend while I was in town. The fourth bridesmaid, MOH Sister Hippo, had her dress sent to her in Chicago and had already gotten it taken in. Way to be on top of it, sister!

So, first the good news.

The dresses look awesome! I love the navy color we chose, and the satin fabric is lovely. BMs Amber and Angela modeled their picks, and then had the seamstress make adjustments, including shortening the hem to be knee-length. I’m super excited with how the dresses look, and I know the ladies felt good about them too.

So, now the bad news.

Bridesmaid Elizabeth’s dress doesn’t fit. At all. As in, can’t zip, 6 inches from closing, doesn’t fit. See, Elizabeth found out she was pregnant (yay!) after we had selected dresses, and we figured just ordering a little extra fabric just in case would be sufficient. Ummm… not so much. That baby is not fittin’ in that dress. Have I mentioned that my wedding is right around the corner?!???

Pretty good news.

The bridal shop contacted the manufacturer and they are able to do a two week rush job. The dress will arrive at the shop the Wednesday before our Saturday wedding. Elizabeth gets in to town on Thursday, and she’ll head straight to the shop for alterations. Now, if there is any delay in the dress coming in or if the new, bigger dress size doesn’t fit, well… let’s not talk about that. Let’s focus on the positive shall we?

Did you have any last minute bridesmaid dress issues? Surely I can’t be the only one…

if the new dress doesn’t come, you could always have them put in a corset back

I had a similar experience when I was preganant with my daughter… 12 1/2 years ago. I was a bridesmaid, got fitted for my dress which was a size 4, and my then-husband and I found out I was pregnant. Once the dress came in we had to take it to a tailor not affiliated with the bridal shop (they wouldn’t add a panel and I have no clue why) and have a front baby-bump panel added. Oila! Maternity bridesmaid dress lol

The same thing happened to us! We found out she was pregnant and had to scramble to get another dress last second. Everything worked out :)

My girls went and did there fitting over the weekend and one of my girls ended up getting a size up just in case. Better to take it in then not have enough room.

I wish you luck.

Well, we didn’t have any for my wedding, but the dress I am supposed to wear to my friend’s wedding at the end of next month is just barely zipping at the bust. Darn the manufacturer for not having the larger size in stock! I am already working on a weightloss plan and have a crazy backup plan of altering it slightly if my bust won’t shrink by April. I have faith that it will work out though and am glad for the added motivation to get rid of the post wedding plump.

Stressful much! If the new dress doesn’t fit, can they cannibalize the fabric from the first one? Kidding! Your girls’ dresses look great!!
