About Mrs. Crepe

I know everyone and their mom has heard about these striped paper straws but I just couldn’t help myself.

I’m so happy that this is a wedding/party trend that has swept the nation because it meant that it was easy to find them sold in bulk. At first, the plan was to use this in adorable mason jars, garnished with mint or citrus slices, but seeing as no part of our wedding is outdoors, it didn’t seem to work quite as well with our style. That didn’t stop me from gathering inspiration photos like this, however:

Check out that adorbs nail polish!

After we set aside the mason jar idea, I started thinking about other fun drinks that would be worthy of our stripey straws. That was when I came across this photo:

I love the addition of color that old fashioned sodas come in and wanted to offer something a little special in the drinks area since we’re having a dry wedding (cue the gasps), due to venue restrictions. The only problem now is sourcing the sodas. It would be amazing to find a local place since shipping is going to cost so much for the drinks but despite my Googling super powers, I’m having a lot of trouble finding one.

Does anyone out there know where can I get fun, colorful bottled sodas in Nashville?

Crush is sold at walmart in the bottles and you might check for jones soda there.

Crush comes in grape, strawberry, and orange. I loved it as a kid.

Where do you plan on buying your straws? Did you find an inexpensive place? Thanks in advance!

Awesome! We too are using glass soda bottles and are probably getting them at Costco and Walmart. I love your post on straws and since we too are having a dry wedding it will add some fun to the drinks.

Dumb question here: those straws are adorable, but my first thought is that paper disintegrates in water. Do the straws hold up all night? And how?

Do the straws get lost inside the bottles? I’m trying to find height differences and don’t want guests fishing around for them :)

I had the green ones at my wedding but forgot to tell my photographer to take pictures of them like the ones above so there are like 2 pictures of the straws in use. Moral of the story is MAKE A SHOT LIST!!

I am loving the stripey straws but alas they do not make sense for our wedding. Sad Loxy!

@tksjewelry: @glaca: @Nickers2: @cbrydon: @PitBulLover: thank you all for your tips!!

@utran28: we got ours from bakeitpretty.com– 3 boxes of 144 came out to 24.75!

@miss.qwerty: I was actually worried about that too, but I’ve read that they DO hold up and I’m hoping that’s true!

@glaca: I’m not sure if they get lost in the bottles but good point.. I”ll be sure to check on that and make sure to use shorter glass bottles. I originally wanted to do old fashioned sodas, which come in smaller sizes, I believe.

I had to jump on the bandwagon also but I got the paper straws with hearts on them instead of strips…Wish it would let me post a pic :(

You can get Izze at Target, Costco, and fancier grocery stores. If you have a Whole Foods nearby, you’ll be able to find a ton of options. Also I would check local delis and out here our big alcohol stores (beer/wine/spirits, not just wine) also carry a ton of sodas.

Izzes are great because they are just fruit juice and sparkly water, so for people like me who can’t handle the super sweetness of Jones soda they’re perfect.

I love old fashioned soda bottles! I second (third?) the suggestion to use Izze. They taste great, come in yummy flavors, and the bottles are oh-so-cute!
