It feels trite to say that I love music. I happily fork over money for my Rhapsody account each month because I would go broke if I bought every song I listen to on iTunes. And when I say I love music, I love all music. Top-40, who-the-crap-are-they indie music, I LOVE folk—anything with a banjo or a harmonica, classic rock, country, sacred music, instrumental…you name it, I’m up for it. I even dig the blues.

This next week, I’ll be plowing through some wedding-y musical selections. I’ll show you my favorites, and you can tell me yours. If you love swappin’ ideas about music, you get a whole week of it. If you hate it, it’s over in a week!
Without further ado: Wedding Music from Movies! I love the idea of personalizing your wedding with selections from favorites movies or TV shows.
1. For a fun recessional: The Whole Wide World - Wreckless Eric
My favorite movie of all-time is Stranger than Fiction. This movie has: literary humor, English humor, raunchy humor, weep-worthy introspection, plus sweet moments and amazing music. See for yourself:
Seriously, have you seen it? It’s so good. I’m probably going to watch it after I finish this post.
2. For a sweet recessional: Flowers in the Window - Travis
My very-close-second favorite movie is Saved! (What can I say? I’m a sucker for deadpan humor and a lot of heart.) I always thought this would be my recessional because I cry at this song at the end, every time since I saw in the theatre:
3. For a first dance with a Parisian quelque chose: La Vie En Rose - Edith Piaf
From Sabrina- oh, I melt. “I wish I were my brother.”
4. For a sentimental processional: Moon River - Henry Mancini + Orchestra
My tastes are tied between Funny Face and Breakfast at Tiffany’s, but Moon River is a weeper:
5. For a fun reception entrance: Twist and Shout - The Beatles
If Pdog and I ever have kiddos, we’ll take the day off work and pull them out of school once a year for no reason (as a surprise) and watch this movie, go downtown, and dance to this song. Maybe I will wear a white fringe jacket.
6. For a crowd-pleaser early in the night: Do You Love Me - The Contours
Self-explanatory. “I carried the watermelon.”
7. For an ’80s slow-dance: In Your Eyes - Eric Clapton
Maybe not a typical choice for a wedding, but I had to give Lloyd Dobler a shout-out. I’d give him my heart, even if all he gave me was a pen.
8. For a funny-but-still-sweet first dance: Grow Old With You - Adam Sandler
I had this soundtrack when I was twelve, and I could sing every word to all the songs AND quote Billy Idol’s speaking parts. Junior high winner, folks.
9. For a make-your-mama-cry first dance: When You Say Nothing at All - Ronan Keating
The next year, age 13, I fell in love with Notting Hill and with this song. Like, listened to it on repeat and felt 95% sure it was about me and my junior high boyfriend. So sweet, as is the Allison Kraus version featured in my other favorite movie from that year: The Other Sister.
10. The Must-Play: Shout - Otis Day and the Knights
Aaaand the ultimate:
