Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NC Age and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Researcher Engagement Date: December 1, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Barn at Valhalla About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!

The Story of Us: How We Met

March 8th, 2011 @ 11:09 am by Mrs. Magic

I know you have been waiting for this. I’ve waited awhile to share this story with you, friends, because it’s so freaking cute it might just make you gag. Grab a trash can, just in case, and here goes.

Source

Once upon a time, on a sunny day with Carolina blue skies, Miss Magic was walking along Franklin Street wearing a really fabulous outfit. She had on some really awesome Kate Spade heels, and one got caught in the sidewalk crack. (Don’t you hate it when that happens?) As she struggled to free her shoe (it was really stuck and she was making quite a spectacle of herself), a handsome young man came by to assist her. He said “nice shoes” while really checking out her legs, and that’s how Miss Magic and Mr. Magic met.

Cute story, huh? Thanks. It’s totally not true.

So, Mr. Magic and I do not remember how we met. Mr. Magic was friends with some of my friends…and so that’s how we were introduced, I guess, but we can’t really remember the exact moment when we met. Mr. Magic’s earliest memory of me is of seeing me take my then boyfriend up to my room while Mr. Magic was playing board games with my roommates. (1. I do NOT remember this at all. 2. This is NOT a great story to tell the aunts and cousins who want to know the sappy, romantic version of how we met.) My first memory is of us sitting in a booth at a bar. I mentioned that I really needed a computer, and Mr. Magic mentioned that he really needed a girlfriend. I swear this happened…although my memory is the worst, and not that reliable, but I really feel this happened. Maybe.

I also remember my three roommates and me having a keg party, and he was there, and I was trying to dance with him, and his friends encouraged him, and he was very weird and nervous. And I was drunk.

I do know we met in the year 2002. Maybe in August. Or September?

This is kind of disappointing, isn’t it? It’s disappointing even to ME! We don’t have the “love at first sight” story, but we also don’t have the “we always knew the other was The One” story. We had a very weird and awkward “courtship” at first, with me not wanting to jump into another relationship and both of us lacking the communication skills to talk about what we wanted.

Factor in Mr. Magic moving away and getting a new girlfriend, me going to grad school, and a lot of miscommunication, and it’s amazing that we ever got back together in the first place! (That happened in 2004. I do know that.)

How did you and your SO meet? Have you ever embellished or changed the story to make it more appropriate or romantic? And I am the only person who doesn’t remember how she met her partner???

I totally know the feeling; my fiance and I were in the same dorm in college and I don’t think had that ‘first met’ moment. We just sort of came to know each other organically through mutual friends :)

I don’t remember when we first met. Some time in the Fall of 1997. But luckily, I do remember when we “met” the 2nd time around (June 2, 2010). Although, if it makes you feel any better, I don’t remember our first kiss… at all. D’oh!

I can totally relate to your story! We met at a party in my apartment complex after my junior year of college. After I gave him my phone number I was reluctant to going out with him. But yea, just what I want people to know..we were drunk when we met. No very romantic! But this is real life and real life isn’t always romantic and cliche.

Lol love it! My fiance and I have a similiar weird how we got together non-story. We knew each other through my sorority sister. For 2 years we vaguely knew each other, socialized, drank at the same bars. We edit out the drunken haze of college that brought us together for the fam. So not a good story to tell the kiddies one day (until their older and can appreciate the drunken debauchery that college relationships often start from haha).

Haha! Our story is hilariously similar to yours! Our “courtship” took place at a variety of college house parties…not super classy. We definitely didn’t have a “You’re the One!” moment!

I don’t remember the EXACT moment when we first met either. I know what day it had to have been, my first day working at that particular theatre, when I got introduced to 60+ people in one day.

And, we don’t have a cute asking-out story or anything…. there was a giant pub crawl organized by some people at work, and we made out on the dance floor of the last pub. Classy. ;)

I am with Miss CB! I met him my first day of work, along with 50 other people. I like to think that I remember, but I am also known for making things up :) He remembers meeting me, at least. And yeah, no love at first sight, at least not on my end! It took three years before we got together!

I love the conversation in your version of the meeting. Classic.
My first memory of Q is from a year and a half before we started dating, at a sports team dinner, watching him circle a picked over buffet hoping to find more to eat… I think he wishes he’d had a chance to make a less vulture-like first impression.

We met my first year of middle school cuz we lived in the same neighborhood and rode the same bus to school. I have no idea when, but I do know that we didn’t like each other the whole time during school. So definitely no love at first sight, although when we did meet back up after a couple years of not seeing each other, there was definitely a spark that neither of us wanted to admit!

Totally right there with you on this one…I have known my fiance for something like 10 years but neither of us have any recollection of when we first met. I do however love the idea of creating a story…genius idea :)

Oh my gosh we were the same way. I think we may have met on the school bus because we lived in the same school district our whole lives, but we didn’t meet until high school. (maybe?) I honestly can’t remember. We also didn’t have that “the one” moment since I had a boyfriend most of the time. So much for romance. ;)

Mr. P remembers my first day at his office and every computer room discussion. Same for me. And I saved all of our correspondence, had a feeling this guy was special from the start.

I remember meeting Mr Crol, but he doesn’t remember meeting me at all lol.
I had just lost my job the day before and my brother and I were out shopping. He saw a sign saying that the store we were at was hiring and badgered me into asking for an application. Mr Crol was the handsome customer service worker that gave me one and very sweetly said he hoped I would come to the job faire that they were having the next day.
Mr Crol now claims this never happend ^_~

Yes it’s the same for me too - it sounds like you and me both tend to forget things (or at the very least they get murky in time).
I hate it, but it helps to write things down :-)

Nope, I couldn’t pinpoint the first time we met either. We’ve known each other since high school and hung out in the same crowd so we ’saw’ a lot of each other during high school. We didn’t start dating until we both had graduated college (at seperate schools) and we both moved back home after graduation. I could tell you our first date, but no idea about the first time we met.

You’re too funny - love the fake story, but I think the real one is so much better! It sounds like it happened perfectly naturally. :)

The story of how you two met is way more interesting than the shoe-in-the-sidewalk-crack scenario. :) I first met Mr. T in a study session (I was running it), and I distinctly remember him sleeping through it. He barely recalls that I was his TA, so we’ve definitely had some unromantic moments!

I always tell people FI and I met the first day of orientation for school. But apparently we had the same interview day, and he always tells everyone he remembers me from that (6 months earlier). I guess I remember, once he mentioned it, but we each have completely different stories of our initial meeting.
