Here we are, continuing with the reject pile! To briefly recap, these are the ideas that didn’t end up making it into our wedding. This last one is a biggie and deserves its own post.
#6 Videography
My favorite part of modern weddings is videography. It was #2 on the list of must haves next to completely, utterly, kick butt photography. I thought that our biggest hurdle was budget, so I scoured the Weddingbee Vendor Reviews to find local companies (to save on traveling/lodging fees) that also did great work.
But Mr. Crepe was a film major and just didn’t feel that we should pay someone $Xk amount to cut together a film he felt that he could do himself. I wasn’t thrilled with this choice at first—I trust his editing skills completely but I’m worried that it would be too big of a project for him to finish within a reasonable amount of time. Why not outsource this to someone who did this for a living? I had found one company whose work I loved and they were located in Nashville, so that was perfect:
Andy & Reagan :: Reception Highlights from FocalPoint Cinematic Weddings on Vimeo.
I told Mr. Crepe that we’d discuss this some more but we should have some other options just in case. I emailed Focal Point and they were booked the weekend of our wedding. I was crushed, but determined to find someone who was available that weekend.
I kept looking but ultimately decided that Mr. Crepe was right about one thing—we were both so picky and had such a tight budget that it was difficult to justify spending even a little bit of money on a video we weren’t going to be happy with. So I decided to trust Mr. Crepe’s judgment with this project. He’s hired a few friends with film making experience to shoot the day using professional equipment and he will be editing our wedding video himself.
Hive, I’m going to be honest. I’m SUPER nervous about this decision. Especially since I want so badly to have a video that we can look back on and share with our family and friends who can’t make it to our semi-destination wedding. What if something goes wrong and there isn’t a video at all? I suppose there was always that chance, even if we hired professional videographers.
I am a picky, picky girl with control issues, I freely admit that. So, the thing I am excited about the most is having a say in how the end product is edited. In the meantime, Mr. Crepe has asked me to gather my ALL TIME FAVORITE videos so that we can use them as inspiration on how to create our own. I thought I’d share a couple of the ones I have so far with you (the first one being that sweet reception highlights video above).
This isn’t a wedding video but I thought it was so charming and could be translated into a wedding day trailer:
EF - Live The Language - Paris from Albin Holmqvist on Vimeo.
I think our video should be in color but this next one has such amazing shots! Keep an eye out for when the video captured a spray of makeup at 1:35…it adds a touch of magic.
Nick + Kate // Semple Mansion from capture studios on Vimeo.
While this next one represents a wedding that is much fancier than ours, it’s a great mix of style, fun, and captures so much personality that I’m hoping we’ll be able to do with our video.
Alex & Sam from Reel Vision on Vimeo.
Show me your wedding videos! I’d love to be inspired by the hive.
