Eat Mor Chikin

March 9th, 2011 @ 1:25 pm by Mrs. Sparkler

The other day Sparks and I were catching up on a Biggest Loser episode (love it) in which the contestants had to complete a temptation challenge. Basically, each team had to spend three minutes in a room that was filled (I’m talking floor to ceiling) with their absolute favorite foods. The team that ate the most calories would “win.” Yeesh. Talk about torture.

Later, Sparks asked me what the room would be filled with if I were a contestant:

“Easy. Chick-fil-A sandwiches. And I would eat every single one of them. Crawlin’ up and down the walls like Spiderman.”

Ohhhh, Chick-fil-A…

The mental image of me crawling up the walls like a crazy person in search of chicken sent Sparks into a laughing fit. But I was serious. I love me some chicken sandwiches.* Which brings me to my point (finally!). My love of Chick-fil-A and chicken sandwiches is what led us to our wedding venue. Bear with me.

About a year ago, Sparks and I heard a rumor that Chick-fil-A was FINALLY opening a Chicago location. I did some more research and found out that not only was this rumor true, but that they were also throwing a big party in honor of the grand opening. I signed up for tickets immediately**, and a week later we were walking up to the door of this place:

Recognize it? Yep. That’s our wedding venue. Of course, we didn’t know that then. We were too busy basking in the glory of fried Southern goodness.

“I love this chicken sandwich, yo!” (Personal photo)

While we were enjoying our culinary journey back to the South, I commented that this would be a pretty nice place to have a wedding, right? Sparks agreed, but we weren’t even engaged yet, so I put it in the back of my mind. I didn’t think about it again until we walked through CIC’s doors in August. Then it clicked. THIS was the place that had captured me so many months ago. I couldn’t believe it. The room looked so different without dancing cows and waiters serving waffle fries. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at my realization. Something that so strongly represented my love of the South (and how badly I missed it) had led me to our wedding venue in this big city. I might have cried a little. And developed an insatiable craving for a chicken sandwich.

Does anyone else have a weird connection with their venue? Did you find it in an unexpected way? Who loves Chick-fil-A?

*I very rarely eat meat. Like once a week, maybe. The only things holding me back from being a full-on vegetarian are grass-fed-beef burgers and Chick-fil-A. I just cannot quit you.

** And danced around my apartment, hyperventilating about the fact that Chick-fil-A was opening in Chicago. Breathe, dude.

I love LOVE love me some Chick-Fil-A. When I found out there’s a location at the Columbia U campus in NYC I ran around the house. And told EVERYONE I knew.
My MIL was going to bring me some from the airport terminal the last time she came to visit.
Sigh. I want some waffle fries!!!

I am so with you! I love chick-fil-a but only eat meat rarely - when it’s organic, free range and affordable… so not very much! :)

Mm Chick-Fil-A. Probably the busiest retail location on campus during lunch (even more than Starbucks).
Sadly, it’s closed for Spring Break and even Chick-Fil-A won’t get me to walk an extra mile for lunch.

I love Chick-Fil-A, but I only seem to crave it on Sundays when they’re closed, lol :). FI and I call it the “Chick-Fil-A Effect.”

Love Chick-Fil-A and everything about them…that is the one thing that can instantly make me happy! So happy in fact that I have decided I am going to send my dad to get lunch at Chick-fil-a for the wedding party before the wedding! I think if I could they would cater the whole wedding (we are having fried chicken :)). Sadly it isn’t on my wedding diet so I don’t get it very often.

I used to crazy love chick-fil-a. I mean that lemonade and chicken. Amazing. Sigh. However, the recent news of the charitable organizations they support has drastically reduced the amount of chick-fil-a I consume. I think I have been there once since all that. It has sort of ruined them for me.

You all make me feel so lucky that there’s 2 CFA’s by work and 2 by my house. I have a CFA calendar on my cubicle wall too

I love Chik-fil-a, but the little creature inside me doesn’t. My cow calendar is very upset since I haven’t used any of the coupons.

i have been going to chick-fil-a since i was a little girl. the ONLY location was in the once-upon-a-time popular mall to go to, but that’s what i always got when mom took me shopping. it closed many years ago, but chick-fil-a prevailed, and there’s now at least 2 or 3 locations that i can think of in the jersey area. i am now in virginia away from home, but because of all the crap around here i don’t have any idea where the nearest location is. but i do know that bf and i drove so far out of our way on our drive back up from north carolina from visiting my grandparents…just have the chick-fil-a the i95 sign said was close. wrong, but it was worth it!

@jo.lee: Same here! If I ever crave CFA on a day that isn’t Sunday, I take it as a sign from the gods that I must get some chicken sammich that day.

So I haven’t eaten lunch yet (starving btw) and now I really reeeeally rilly want a chicken sandwich with waffle fries and lemonade! Love your story; the suspense of the connection between the correlation was making me so darn curious.

I… love… Chik-Fil-A… there is one in the mall by my office and, if it weren’t pouring rain I would get one after work!

I’m Catholic and fasting for Ash Wednesday. You’re killin’ me with the giant picture of a Chick-Fil-A sandwich! Mmmmm. So craving one now.

If only they would master the pickle layout. I hate it when they put them in a pile in the middle. I need a good pickle to chicken ratio.
