Mrs. Lox, Baltimore Age and Occupation: 33, Government Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35. IT Consultant Engagement Date: May 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.

In Case of Rain

March 9th, 2011 @ 11:05 am by Mrs. Lox

So, a Sunday afternoon wedding in the May sunshine sounds gorgeous, right? I mean, even if you don’t think so you can surely imagine why I might. I’m going to pretend you are all nodding and smiling right now. Let’s keep going.

So right, gorgeous idea. Except… if it rains. Now, our venue has an excellent rain plan. If you recall, our reception will be in a permanent pavilion structure behind the B&B. Here’s a refresher.

The inside of the pavilion

The pavilion from the outside.

The wedding will also be taking place in there in case of rain. Then the space will be flipped while we are all at cocktail hour.

So right, I’m not worried about the ceremony at all. What I’m worried about, of course, are the pictures. Like the awesome ones we envision by this lighthouse.

Pictures by a lighthouse? Yes please!

But what will happen to those if it rains? Well, I don’t exactly know. We’re thinking of having our first look in that general area. And even if not there, the fact is, it’ll have to be somewhere outdoors. The B&B is not conducive to an indoor private space for such a thing. So how will I keep us from getting wet?

With cute umbrellas for both of us first! Much like the sock hunt, I searched and searched for umbrellas and then I searched some more. Here’s a tip, if you want an umbrella for a man that has any kind of pattern to it (especially in orange) you’re going to be wanting for a while. However, if you can compromise just a little, you could find something like this:

So cute! Right? But won’t it be plain and sad next to my patterned pink umbrella? Not if I’m carrying this…

Double cute! Plus these umbrellas are slightly wider than your average umbrella so they’ll offer more protection for my poofy skirt. Win! But what about my tootsies? I mean, men’s dress shoes are full coverage so Mr. Lox’s feet will be just fine. But my cute sparkly flats will definitely not be okay. What to do?

Seriously, you have no idea how jazzed I am about these stinkin’ boots. First of all, I mean…just look at them. OMG, right? Second, none of these things are wedding only purchases. We can use these umbrellas and the rain boots in our regular lives regardless of whether or not it rains on our wedding day. So they are practical. (Also, while I did not buy the rain boots from the above link, I did get them on half price sale. Cute + on sale = double win!) And I’m just stupidly excited about an excuse to ever pop on pink leopard rain boots. I mean, look at them!

So anyway, that is the Lox plan for handling rain. When in doubt, buy cute accessories!

Do you have a rain plan?

My plan was hope for sun, pray there would not be a hurricane and stalk weather.com. In the end the weather was perfect although I’m not sure that had anything to do with my plan :) I guess your umbrellas are a bit more fool proof.

The first 2 couples who got married in my group of friends had GORGEOUS weather in their April and October weddings. We fear there’s no way the luck will hold out for us, so I’ve convinced myself there will be rain (probably a mid-day thunderstorm) for our early July wedding.

I’m trying really hard to embrace the idea that it WILL rain, so I’ll either be prepared, or pleasantly surprised (if it doesn’t). I’ll start hunting for a cute umbrella in the next 2 months. Love yours, by the way!

I personally think that rainy pictures with uber-cute accessories are the best!! :) Not that I don’t HOPE you have sunshine on your big day, but don’t despair if it does. And you’re already on top of things with the adorable boots and umbrellas!

Love the umberellas. Our rain plan was hope it doesn’t rain and have one tent. We were lucky and it didn’t rain after 7:30 am.

DAV rainboots are so cute but run super small in the calf! I ordered a pair and I have pretty average sized legs and I can’t wear them. I keep holding on to them wondering if there’s a way to put an extender in or something!

my current rain plan for my May, Sunday afternoon wedding is to cry!!! I am not worried about the actual ceremony either, but the pictures, if it rains. Your post actually made me think about preparing for rain in a practical sense as well….

Wedding in New England in August, the chance of thunder storms is real….Teh ceremony will be held inside and the party is under the tent but I hadn’t thought about pictures… I still want the foggy misty shots. Looks like I’ll be shopping for the appropriate items. I am sure that the FI will thank you. :-)

So cute! I love wedding pictures in the rain. :) If it sprinkles on our day we have some indoor locations scoped out for pictures. All my fingers and toes are crossed for fair weather for both of us!

Can’t wait to see your wedding - Vandiver is first contender for our venue (assuming Him Indoors doesn’t get moved to Georgia in the meantime!)

It’s not allowed to rain on the PAC wedding day. That’s my plan. Love your rain boots. I have a pair with Nantucket style whales and I refer to them as my Whalies (uhm, instead of Wellies).

Yes, definitely have fun getting the cute rain accessories because then it will be beautiful and you won’t need them!

Sweet!!! Those rain accessories are adorable and will help you make beautiful pics even if it does rain! I think it’s smart to prepare, you never know how the weather could be like and to miss out on pics only because you hadn’t prepared in advance would be a shame!
