Mrs. Cotton Candy, Riverside, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Field Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Process Server Engagement Date: July 5, 2007 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Riverside Art Museum About Me: I’m a girl in love with her best friend planning a small mid-century modern inspired wedding that’s been a long time coming. I love all things design, sewing, flea markets, and a good book. I’ve been known to swoon over a well-designed chair and often find myself craving a new addition to my chair collection regardless of the lack square footage in our home. I’m Mexican American girl who hates all things spicy but loves her rowdy Mexican family and her Latin roots. My wedding muses may not be your typical wedding superstars, but with a lot of DIY, a dash of offbeat style, and lots of love and laughs, Mr. Cotton and I plan to create a day that is unmistakably us.
About Mrs. Cotton Candy

My obsession with what I like to call the mullet of wedding dresses began with this picture of Carey Mulligan at the 2010 Academy Awards.

Adorable, right? The drama and tradition of a train with the fun and sass of short dress—I was in love. My love grew deeper when I stumbled upon this wedding on Once Wed.

Perfection. The hair, the shoes, and the dress! She’s fabulous, and so is her wedding; I instantly wanted her dress.

Fortunately for me and all you other mullet-dress-loving brides, dress designers seem to be picking up on this trend. A quick search brings up this pretty from Watters:

This dress from David’s Bridal is very similar to the one from Once Wed:

And the cherry on top is this beauty from Amsale with a bubble high/low hemline!

I haven’t had a chance to sit down with my seamstress to discuss dress design, but I can guarantee this hemline will be high on my want list!

Love the name, but so many bad hairstyles pop into my mind. Love the dresses though.

White House Black Market also has a dress like this that’s quite lovely.

I love this trend. I wasn’t a fan of how the DB one looked on, but it is definitely super cute!

I tried on one of these at Davids Bridal last year. Since they have a pretty good selection of sizes maybe they might have one you could try on to see if you like the silhouette.

BTW I LOVE IT!

I’m not usually a fan of mullet dresses (love the term!) but that Amsale one won me over.

I love the high/low hem, I also investigated it for our 1920’s themed wedding but went with a lace full-length instead.

The bubble hem is my favorite! They were in fashion in the late 80’s when I was in high school so that probably explains it lol

@miss.qwerty: Me too!!

But I also think I like them better when I think of them as “mullet dresses.” ;)

I love this style. FYI. I tried on the Davids Bridal one and I was too short for it. I’m 5′4”. Just wanted to give a friendly heads up!

I love the David’s dress with the ruching and sweetheart neckline. I would go try it on. Also, since you are having a dress made–I would consider the front length of the Amsale paired with an interesting shoe as shown! I feel the Watters is just too high in front. Then again, if you love your calves, it might be right for you!

One of my favorite dresses of all time is a “mullet dress!” Party in the front, business in the back! Awesome choice, CCandy. :)

Sorry, this is one trend I can’t get behind. It looks like a botched alterations job on short people and just plain ridiculous on tall people - just like the original mullet!
