Mrs. Panther, Atlanta GA/Westport CT Age and Occupation: 24, Web Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Music Recording Engineer Engagement Date: March 13, 2010 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: The Inn at Longshore About Me: I'm a total goofball who goes through life at a breakneck pace, trying not to knock anything over. I tend to fall in love with everything I encounter, but more than anything, I love my two little kitties, Bela and Josie, and my big kitty, Mr. Panther! As a wannabe crafter, I'm still waiting for my artistic talents to emerge. (Any day now, really.) In the meantime, I spend my days eating anything put in front of me, buying every pair of shoes I see and absorbing wedding inspiration from every inch of my surroundings. Mr. Panther and I are hardcore New Englanders planning Connecticut nuptials from our new home in the Dirty South, and can't wait to mix our newfound love of classic Southern charm with some modern city touches.
About Mrs. Panther

Name That Shoe!

March 9th, 2011 @ 1:02 pm by Mrs. Panther

Ugh. You guys, I thought when we finally found Mr. Panther’s suit, the groom apparel dilemmas would be over. But of course, I was wrong. Wrong, wrong again.

Mr. Panther still needs shoes. And I thought that would be easy. He just needs something stylish, formal and streamlined. Ideally, a black leather wingtip oxford with a slightly squared toe. NBD, right?

These are the shoes shown with the Theory suit on the Bloomingdale’s website:

One would think, since they’re on the Bloomingdale’s site, that Bloomingdale’s sells these shoes. This, unfortunately, is not the case.

We found what looked like a nice pair from Ben Sherman. Mr. Panther liked them, they weren’t super expensive and the quality looked good. Sadly, when they came in the mail … Mr. Panther didn’t like them anymore.

They’re too pointy! Wahhhh! The toe looked square in the picture on the site … hrmph.

Hive, I’ve scoured the internet, and I’ve had no success. I need your help! Does your man wear formal wingtip oxfords? Where did he get them? Have you ever seen the shoe from the first photo? Any stylish shoe suppliers that I should check out? Did you have similar shoe-shopping trouble and would you like to commiserate?

My FI bought a pair of Allen Edmond’s that look really similar to the top image (although in ‘cognac’). He got them from some site where they were super on-sale, but they’re normally pretty pricey, so if you can find them for a bargain, they are beautiful shoes!

Allen Edmonds are pretty good, as Denali said. Aldens are even better; they’re super expensive but will last forever if he takes care of them properly. Both brands show up on eBay all the time, so keep an eye out for good-looking pairs in his size. Best of luck!

My man wears Cole Haan wingtips.

Unfortunately it looks like they don’t have them anymore at Nordstrom, but maybe you can find them elsewhere.

FH has 3 or 4 pairs of Florsheim wingtips. I even have a pair of vintage Ladies oxfords.
We love their shoes. You can even get them at Men’s Wearhouse. A little pricey new but they are awesome and hold up wonderfully (he has replaced the soles a few times over that past 6 years but dances them to death).

@Denali, @scribejones: Cool, thanks! I’ll keep an eye out for those. I’m not seeing any square toe ones, but maybe they’re out there SOMEWHERE …

@angjesda: I’ve been eyeing those! I love the idea of the extra comfort from the Air sole.
@Knubbsy-Wubbsy: Those look like really nice shoes! I think what’s doing me in is the square toe / wingtip combination. I’m seeing plenty of square toe oxfords in general, but none of them are wingtips, and there are plenty of wingtips, but none of them are square-toed. SIGH. We should probably just give up on one or the other…

Those look exactly like the pair that my fiance is wearing today!

Brand is Bettaccini. He bought them at Nordstrom Rack.

I did a quick internet search and they seem hard to find online.

He also has a pair in brown that look exactly like this style and they by Joseph Abboud.

Good luck!

@mittens111211: Those are really nice! If only I could just force myself to get past the wingtip thing … Cap toe with perforated trim is so close! :)

I would check out Cole Haan they are super comfortable. FI has a beautiful pair that he loves! It didn’t hurt that they have Nike Air in them

@Miss Panther:

I felt the same way about the wingtip! But it really finishes the look off and it’s so classic.

dude, those shoes in the picture are not the same as the one in your hand… I mean there’s gross misrepresentation going on. I hope you got your money back on that one. With such bad luck, I’d just suck it up and go to a nice store.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions, you guys! The hive is the BEST.
@piglover: Comfort is definitely important!
@Miss Kid: Oh, those aren’t the ones from the first picture — they’re just a pair I found that I thought might be similar. I don’t know who makes the shoes in the first picture. :(
@ipoel: I’ve seen those! They’re gorgeous; I don’t think Mr. Panther would shell out that much money, though. Those cost more than his suit!
@Miss Lox: Those actually are really close!

@ipoel: Ooh-la-la! I’d love to see my man in Gucci. No square toe, though! :(
@Paige: There are some nice ones on there! Thanks!

Good luck P! I sent Mr. M. out with his men and told them to not come home until they had shoes. Most stress free shopping I have done. ;)
