About Miss Oatmeal

Don’t Call It Dainty

March 9th, 2011 @ 4:41 pm by Miss Oatmeal

Oh, hey there. Remember me? I’m Oatmeal, that gal who disappeared off the face of the planet. So let’s get back to some wedding goodness, shall we?

In an effort to embrace the “something borrowed, something blue…” tradition, I have found myself one hell of a bracelet that rocks a bit of blue. I found this little gem at the place where dreams come true (and no, I’m not talking about Disneyland, folks): Anthropologie. Many of us have a true love for this store, as is appropriate given their stellar, one of a kind style. Miss Cinnamon Buns knows what I’m talking about.

I think this bracelet is truly gorgeous and something I would be proud to wear again and again after the big day. And here it is:

Don’t Call It Dainty : wedding fresno jewelry 112 1

{Anthropologie}

Oh, she’s so pwetty. No, she isn’t dainty at all, but neither am I so I think we get along pretty well. So, why was I a wee bit hesitant about it when I opened the perfectly wrapped Anthro shipment? It doesn’t look bad from the picture up there, but check out the purple monstrosity of woven ribbon:

I can’t handle it. So I’m going to have to perform some surgery, or at the very least, take it to a tailor who can remove the purple ribbon without completely ruining it like I’m very likely to do. Any suggestions, hive? And what do you think?

Tell me about a time you ordered an accessory online and found something a bit off once you saw it in person.

Wow, it took me a few miniutes to even FIND the purple ribbon in the first pic, but it’s SO obvious in person! That sucks! Hope you can take it off!

I think that bracelet is gorgeous, but wow the ribbon is waaaay more obvious in person than in the pic. I hope you can still use the bracelet and find a solution for the ribbon!

First off, LOVE the bracelet. So pretty.

I don’t mind the ribbon too much! But I think it would be smart to take it to a professional (like you suggested) to handle if you want to get rid of it.

Agreed! That ribbon sure wants to stand out! I know how you feel though about ordering from online…I just received a necklace that was much smaller than I had expected.

The ribbon was the first thing I noticed in your real life picture. It’s got to go!

Looooooove the bracelet. I’m sure a jeweler or something could make the ribbon less noticeable if you still wanted to include it. But it definitely needs to be less out there.

Gorgeous bracelet! And I think in the further-away photo, the ribbon is much less noticeable so for most of your guests, who will be even further away, it won’t show at all! But a jewelery should be able to remove it no problem!

I second Trail Mix–if you decide to leave the bracelet “as is,” I think the prominence of the ribbon will diminish quite a bit! It’s absolutely gorge, and I bet anyone with itty-bitty scissors will be able to take it off.

The bracelet has such a clasic look to it. I love it too, but the ribbon needs to go. What happened to the blue stone, it’s white in the version you are wearing?

Gorgeous! I like the ribbon detail as it balances out the larger, jewelry details on the bracelet.

Those loops are way bigger in your bracelet. Hope the patient survives the surgery!

I too have a somewhat dangerous addiction to Anthro jewelry (and dresses:) I do like this bracelet. The scale of the ribbon doesn’t bother me so much either. I think that the softness has a nice juxtaposition with the hard elements.
However, when I look at your photos and the stock photo, there are a lot of differences in placement and materials of the beads, baubles and sparkles. Maybe there were two colorways of this made? It might be worth a call to direct to check… maybe you received a different one?
Nonetheless, it is pretty and fun!

OMG, I love it! It would make a really great brooch too.

Why would Anthro do that? I hope you can tame that ribbon, I agree it is too big for the other details of the bracelet.

Gorgeous, but I agree with you about the ribbon!

Before you cut anything you could try folding each loop of ribbon in half and gluing it down with some fabric glue or sewing it, maybe they would be the same size as the loops in the photo?

No real advice here, but I just wanted to let you know that I love that bracelet! Even the slightly obtrusive ribbon looks beautiful to me.
