Mrs. Sparkler's Picture
Mrs. Sparkler, Chicago Age and Occupation: 27, Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Publisher Engagement Date: July 21, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Chicago Illuminating Company About Me: I’m a Southern lady living in the big city of Chicago. Well, lady may be a stretch, but I’m working hard to keep some Virginia charm in our sleek, urban, wedding-palooza! I’m addicted to marathons, not-so-famous bands, Chicago restaurants, and Mark Twain. I cry during SPCA commercials, and I think LOST was the best show to ever hit television. Mr. S and I met at a classy college mixer and, 7 years later, he’s still by my side. He’s the only child, laid back, free spirit... I’m the oldest of five kids, type-A, organizer. It doesn’t work on paper, but we’ve never paid attention to that stuff anyway. Somehow it works. And like they say, sometimes when you know…you just know.

How Do I Look?

March 14th, 2011 @ 10:41 am by Mrs. Sparkler

So you’ve seen our save the dates, I’ve talked about how we want a “minimalistic” style wedding, and I’ve revealed the venue…but what does it all mean? What will the Sparkler wedding actually look like? Let me try and paint you a picture.

Our wedding vision (really…did I just say “wedding vision”?) started coming to life when we fell in love with bold combinations of black, white, and charcoal gray, with punches of bright plum mixed in. Ohhhh look:

Continuing with the “bold” theme, I decided that I HAD TO HAVE chevron stipes. Everywhere. OK, not everywhere. I don’t want our guests having stripe-induced seizures during the reception. But I kept finding little bits of inspiration:

Le sigh.

Things slowly started coming together. There was definitely a “look” that we were creating: Clean lines, bold colors, dramatic lighting…oh yeah, we wanted dramatic lighting. Mind you, we were also completely clueless about how much money “dramatic” would cost us. But who cares?! We were planning the wedding of our dreams! So I included visions like these in my inspiration:

Hahahaha…oh Miss Sparkler, you were so naive.

When friends and family started asking us about wedding colors, wedding themes, wedding blah, blah, blah…I decided to whip up one of the fancy boards I had seen floating around the blogosphere. I gathered up all my pictures, spent too much time mushing them around trying to get them just right, and finally came up with something. So I present to you what I like to call, OUR WEDDING: THE INSPIRATION (sounds like it could be a pretty good movie, no?). It’s my first attempt, but what do you all think?

Not bad for a first try. I’m getting happy just looking at those colors. Has anyone else recently attempted an inspiration board? Share them, please!

You are definitely a woman of great taste because those are my exact colors for my wedding in September!!! My venue is also very modern, clean, and contemporary. The flowers will definitely pop against the neutrals, and it will be very modern and sophisticated. Can’t wait to see how your wedding turns out, and I know you will be an huge inspriration for mine as well!

These were our “colors/theme” as well. However, the BM’s wore the color Spiced Wine from JCrew and the guys wore a darm platinum colored tie. The bouts were dark burgandy/purple dahlias and the girls had purple roses and dark dahlias as well. The colors turned out perfect and I got the “ew – b&w for a wedding?” – once it’s together, it’ll be gorgeous.

Yes! You are planning the wedding of our dreams, Sparkler! So happy I get to live vicariously through your wedding. I loved my winery wedding, but would have gone in this direction in a heartbeat! =)
