Rehearsal - Victory!

March 14th, 2011 @ 11:07 am by Ms. Sloth

Do you want to know why I love the hive?

Well, there are a lot of reasons. But one of the biggest reasons is because, when I posted about our rehearsal dinner restaurant closing down, I got so many amazing suggestions from you all about other alternatives. You guys are seriously the best!

Unfortunately, after making a ton of phone calls, no restaurant could offer us prices even close to the low prices that Arbol had quoted. We asked our hotel if we could rent out a conference room and bring in our own food, but the conference room rental fee was exorbitant, and they wouldn’t let us bring in outside food. We were thisclose to just shoving everyone into our hotel suite and ordering pizza, but then, I had a call with our venue coordinator, and everything changed.

She told me that, because of an event the night before our wedding, Bartram’s Garden would be closed to the public, and she asked if we could have our rehearsal sometime between 1-4 in the afternoon.

And our problems were solved, y’all.

Because that way, we could have a rehearsal lunch!

Bartram’s has an adorable little outdoor picnic pavilion that they are letting us use for free, as long as we bring in our own food and clean up after ourselves.

We can eat lunch at 1PM, rehearse afterwards, and then have the rest of our day to do whatever we need to do.

So all we need to do is find some very cheap, very casual catering. Luckily for us, there are a lot of options. We can do sandwich trays, pizza, Chinese, or anything in-between. Lunch is cheap, y’all!

And we can check one more thing off the list.

Did anyone else have a rehearsal lunch instead of a rehearsal dinner?

That’s so awesome that it worked out for you like that! I vote pizza for catering! Easy to eat while hanging out, lots of different flavours available.

Hooray for a vendor willing to help you solve a problem! I’m with Miss CB and rachaelrobin on the pizza idea: it’s good, inexpensive, and easy to clean up.

I would love that idea! Unfortunately, most people will be unable to take off work so early. Plus, my in-laws like to drink, so that’s best done in the evening anyway.

But really glad to hear you found a workable solution!

In my search for a caterer in the Philadelphia area, I came across Moose & Goose Caterers who specialize in picnics. I didn’t end up using them for the wedding because I’m going with an all inclusive venue but the menus looked delicious, the prices were cheap and the owner was incredibly nice and helpful. Might be worth checking out for your lunch!!

I think this sounds like the perfect solution! Yay venue coordinator! Make sure someone else is in charge of picking up the food for you all though!

So glad this worked out! As an alternative to the pizza, you could do make your own tacos. Super cheap, but yummy!

Pig Daddy’s! (I swear, I’m not affiliate, I’m just addicted…) they do great traditional BBQ but also have some rockin’ mexican.

They do catering (skip the top ones on the page… they get cheaper as you go down) or they even have box lunches starting at about $6/person. They’re in Drexel Hill, but well worth it. I’m lucky enough that they deliver to my apartment, but I may go broke on their fajita platter. And their fresh salsa is amazing!

It is so funny that if you’re just a bit creative and look for original solutions you might come up with some amazing ideas - like this one! I think the picnic lunch before the rehearsal is brilliant!

We had our rehearsal dinner on Thursday night instead of Friday and were able to find more options. Sometimes you just have to think outside of the box!
