Mrs. Magic's Picture
Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NC Age and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Researcher Engagement Date: December 1, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Barn at Valhalla About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!

These are My Confessions…

March 15th, 2011 @ 4:12 pm by Mrs. Magic

I’m a Glee freak. (”It’s My Life”/”Confessions” mash-up)

So here’s my confession. You may have noticed that the posts discussing dresses sort of died off. You may have wondered if I was just taking a break, or thinking it over, or if I’d decided to wait until closer to the wedding to really get serious and settle down with one gown. After all, it would be silly to buy a dress over a year before the wedding, right? Styles change! New, gorgeous dresses appear! Who would do such a thing?

Um, me. I would, that’s who. This dress floozy has already settled down!

Here’s how it all went down. I was flipping through a bridal magazine one day and found some gowns by Blue by Enzoani. I thought they were pretty, so I checked out the website and saw they had them at a shop in Raleigh…a shop I had already been to…a shop that held one of the first gowns I really loved. So, I decided to go check them out and made an appointment.

The night before this trip, I ended up getting a bit tipsy, so the morning of my appointment I was not in super form. But Bridesmaid Pumpkin and I headed over there anyway, determined. I tried on a few gowns and they were just OK. Then I decided to try on the one I had always liked.

I put it on, looked in the mirror at the circles under my eyes and my limp hair, and loudly proclaimed, “This is stupid.” I think everyone thought I was talking about the dress, but I was actually saying, “This is really dumb. This is obviously the perfect dress, so why am I making this so difficult?”

I bought it. That day. It’s paid in full. Wanna see what it looks like???

I’m sorry…I can’t…Don’t hate me.

Mr. Magic doesn’t want to see it, and I am afraid to put it on the internets and claim that it is The One. Trust me, though, my dress is the “good kind”!

Do you think it’s crazy to buy a dress over a year before the wedding? How did you know yours was “The One”?

P.S. You guys really loved it! And also, you will have to confiscate my budget-bride card now. Those are your only hints!

I have to say, I haven’t even read your whole post but having Glee and SATC references makes you my favorite.

There’s a decent way to break up with someone, and it DOESN’T INCLUDE A POST-IT!!

I’m a “blue” bride also! And you’ve also become my new favorite bee just because you gave me an excuse to watch Glee at work. (because it’s obviously 100% necessary that I watch it while reading the post)

OMGlee! You’re not crazy for buying a dress over a year out. Granted, I’m a member of that same club. ;) Can’t wait to see it down the line!

@MissMellow: I’m a TV addict!

@R.Elliott: EXACTLY! lol

@Jeni: @sdrury89: Oopsy, it’s actually not a Blue gown, sorry for the confusion. It’ one of the original ones I posted here http://www.weddingbee.com/2011/02/27/wedding-dress-indecision-2/ But those Blue gowns were close contenders!

I have a Blue dress too - I bought it 18 months out. But it’s perfect! So you’re in good company.

P.S. I like Glee too.

I LOVE a Glee mashup - this was definitely one of the best episodes!

You should be happy you have a dress already - I say, the earlier the better. I’m not dress shopping until next month when my mom and sister come for a visit and people are already telling me that my January wedding is getting close and I really need to get on that - so be psyched you found something you love so early!

Sometimes you just know ;) I bought mine almost exactly a year (within a couple of days) of our wedding and I still don’t regret it!

I think the dress is a case of “when you know, you know” so if you found the one a year before the wedding you did the right thing of buying it on the spot! Makes lots of other decisions easier (groom, style, colors…)

I just watched that episode of SATC over the weekend. “Oh, hear that? It’s midnight. The offical end to what will be known as the day that I got arrested for smoking a doobie.”
