Mrs. Cotton Candy, Riverside, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Field Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Process Server Engagement Date: July 5, 2007 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Riverside Art Museum About Me: I’m a girl in love with her best friend planning a small mid-century modern inspired wedding that’s been a long time coming. I love all things design, sewing, flea markets, and a good book. I’ve been known to swoon over a well-designed chair and often find myself craving a new addition to my chair collection regardless of the lack square footage in our home. I’m Mexican American girl who hates all things spicy but loves her rowdy Mexican family and her Latin roots. My wedding muses may not be your typical wedding superstars, but with a lot of DIY, a dash of offbeat style, and lots of love and laughs, Mr. Cotton and I plan to create a day that is unmistakably us.
About Mrs. Cotton Candy

After countless hours of designing, screen printing, cutting, gluing, and addressing, our save the dates are finally ready to head out the door to their new homes!

Our Save the Dates Leave the Nest! : wedding diy riverside save the dates stationery Std2b1

When our guests first receive our save the dates, they’ll be greeted by a gravel colored A6 envelope topped off with a wrap-around label and lined with gray-chevron-printed kraft paper.

When designing our save the dates, I made a conscious effort to keep them color neutral and let the color and grain of the wood really stand out. The cards were designed by me in Photoshop Elements and printed by Cards of Wood on walnut veneer. I was a little concerned that the black ink wouldn’t print well on the dark veneer, but I’m really pleased with the quality of the print, and I love the way the gravel envelope compliments the walnut.

For the magnet, I embroidered our design on an 8 x 10 piece of natural linen and scanned the finished piece into Photoshop. Once re-sized, I printed them out on matte photo paper, trimmed them, and slapped them onto business-card-sized magnets.

I love our save the dates, but I am so happy to see them leave our home. We’re about two months behind on sending these out, so having them go out the door is a huge weight off my shoulders.

Were you behind on sending out your save the dates?

We were on time but it was Mr. P who was anxious to get the out the door. He must have asked me at least twice a week between Halloween and New Years. I’m with you — it was a relief when they were done.

Those are so original!! And the scanned embroidery looks great! I couldn’t even tell it was a image and not the real thing.

I am still obsessed with the embroidery magnets. Swoon.

We were a bit late getting ours out, but I think that was mainly because I wanted them out early. No biggie.

Beautiful. I love the wood. Can’t wait to get mine done. Ours are behind because the photographer keeps rescheduling. Good thing she will not be the one doing our wedding.

I seriously love these so much. Like so so much!! The lined envelope, the wood, the stitching!

How did you embroider it? Just free hand? Print and then stitch? I would love to copy this idea for other crafties but would love to know how! (I’ll just PM you actually . . .)
