Mrs. Barrettes's Picture
Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
About Mrs. Barrettes

I’ve been looking forward to sharing this one with you! I’m always the one to make the faces, but Mr. Barrettes definitely got into the spirit with the garter toss…

A Napa Fairytale: The Garter and Bouquet Tosses : wedding napa pictures pro pics recap 11 1

Someone pulled out a chair, a circle began to form around it, and I was summoned to have a seat. (I also should have been reminded to change back into my purple pumps, but you know how things go.) My groom was quick to join me in the middle of the circle and I could tell by his face he was getting a little saucy. I whispered to him to try not to show the whole room my sous-vêtements.

About halfway down my thigh he decided to bite it and pull it down. Maybe I should wear these things more often! I’m glad it arrived in the mail that day or I would have missed out on the garter fun.

Cheating a little! I see those hands! Must have been my dancer calf. ;)

He was stoked when he got it off and he ripped the little white bow off of it—with his teeth! I had purchased two so I didn’t care what happened to it, but it was funny to see the little white bow laying in the middle of the floor.

He didn’t waste any time in tossing it over his shoulder. The single men scurried to get near him and he launched it…landing it right in front of the only gay man out there! Yay, Dyl!

Next, it was my turn. I motioned for the ladies to come closer towards me, away from the light fixture. I could only imagine my bouquet ending up swinging from the ceiling.

Yes, I used my real bouquet. What’s the point of throwing a fake one? I have gorgeous photos of it looking fresh and pretty, and I didn’t need to save them until they were dead.

My cousin, Olivia (the florist’s daughter coincidentally) caught the purple pretties. She’s only 16 so I’m hoping she isn’t really the next to be married. Yes, yes, I know, technically everyone should be over 18, but seriously, there isn’t wedding police. ;)

Dylan, very gentlemanly, pushed the garter up her leg and everyone laughed and gave them a round of applause.

With that business taken care of, the rest of the night was left for dancing!

I know many brides and grooms balk at the whole tossing thing, but there was no question as to whether we would do it at our wedding. I like the tradition, I think it’s cute, and it’s suppose to be fun! Not to mention our guests loved it. It is a wedding, y’all—there is only one time in your life that you can be a bride and toss the bouquet, so do it!

Such great and fun photos. I didn’t know it was tradition for the guy who caught the garter to put it on the bouquet catcher! Learned something new.

I LOVE YOUR RECAPS! I am going to be SO sad when they’re all over with. You are both totally gorgeous, totally in love and CLEARLY having a blast.
Also, lovin’ the fact that you have a glass of red wine in your hand all. night. long. And Mr. Barrettes sunglasses: Classic.

Love it.

Love it!!! I totally had balked at the idea of throwing the bouquet originally. I was worried there wouldn’t be enough single girls there for it to “look” cute. Or that I’d feel silly. And then I remembered that when I was 8 I caught the bouquet at my aunt’s wedding- there are pictures of me leaping in the air- and i LOVED it.

So now I’m planning on rigging a toss to my little cousin, and I hope she remembers that moment the way I did when I was her age =)

@Lauren: Aw– that is super cute! She will def. remember it. Forget about it “looking” cute. It will be cute as long as YOU are having fun! =)
