Ms. Sloth, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 35, Account Manager and Fashion Blogger Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Design Admin Engagement Date: December 25, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Bartram's Garden About Me: I'm an internet junkie and music snob with a good eye for a bargain. I couldn't live without thrift store shopping, cheeseburgers, sushi, Coke Zero, websites devoted to silly photos of baby animals, Photoshop, and Mr. Sloth. Speaking of which, he and I are a pair of goofball homebody nerds who love our beagle (the most ridiculously adorable dog EVER) to an embarrassing degree. We're planning a low-key and intimate yet festive and quirky outdoor wedding with DIY details and deeply personal touches, and it's all taking place in the city where we fell in love and call home: Philadelphia.
About Ms. Sloth

After lots of decision making and even a postponement, the Sloths have chosen our honeymoon destination.

Can you guess where from these photos?

That’s right, hive, the Sloths are heading to Alaska!

It was sort of a spur-of-the-moment decision, yet it was also something we’d been discussing for quite a long time. See, we’ve always wanted to go to Alaska, since even before we were engaged, but most of the research we’d done claimed that, by far, the best way to see Alaska was to take a cruise.

And we’re just not cruise people. Mr. S has never been on a cruise but has no desire to ever try one. I’ve been on two cruises and was definitely not a fan. We both prefer to travel on our own terms and not on the strict itineraries and planned activities that cruises offer. And so, we figured that Alaska just wasn’t in the cards.

But then, a genius new friend of mine told me about how she and her husband had traveled to Alaska without cruising at all. They flew directly into Anchorage, rented a car, and saw the state on their own terms and own schedule.

As soon as I mentioned this to Mr. S, he said “Let’s book it.” And so we did!

Well, sorta. I did an internet search for airfare and found an amazing rate, so we’ve booked our flights. We still haven’t figured out our itinerary, and we very well might improvise a lot of it, but we definitely want to do the following.

Dog sledding (well, carting in warm weather) in Seward:

Go whale watching:

Check out the glaciers by Mount McKinley:

And just generally soak up the amazing scenery.

We’re not going until late August, because of my new job, but We. Can’t. Wait. And it feels so good to have finally made a decision and book the damned thing!

Where will you be going on our honeymoon? Was it a relief when you finally made your decision?

What a unique honeymoon spot!! We’re doing the old standby: beach, warmth, tropics.

OMG! Alaska is DEF on our list of must sees one day!!! I’m not a fan of pre-planned itinerary ala travel agents so this sounds like THE most fun EVER!

We were going to go to Alaska on our honeymoon, but decided that we didn’t have enough travel time since we wouldn’t be flying out until Tuesday. So totally jealous.

I did a family vacay where we just rented a car and drove around, and it was seriously the.best.thing.ever. One day the only thing we did was drive down a highway and stop every few miles to hop out of the car and take photos. It is the most beautiful place ever!

Welcome to the North! August is a great time of year up here - it’s thes tart of fall, so the weather is still warm during the day but chilly at night. Bring layers! :) Anchorage has lots of super yummy resturants as well. Have fun! :)

Alaska was were my FI wanted to go so bad, but sadly when we realized the flights would eat up most of our very modest budget it was out. It sounds like an amazing place for a honeymoon!

I was getting so stressed over the honeymoon, so once we booked a vacation rental it was a huge weight off my shoulders. So far we only booked the house & know we are driving but haven’t planned it out fully yet. I should probably get on that soon…

Yay for the Alaskan Honeymoon! I live in Anchorage, so I’m slightly biased. Hit me up if you need a bucket list of stuff to do (or good places to stay)!

We went to Alaska on our honeymoon. We did the same thing - flew into Anchorage and rented a car. In one week we put over 2000 miles on the rental car and only saw a tiny part of the state. Can’t want to go back again! Good choice!!

We did an Alaskan (non-cruise) honeymoon too! We camped by glaciers, took a float plane to a backcountry cabin and spent 2 nights, backpacked some. GREAT trip!
