Crazy for Bouts: Part II

March 16th, 2011 @ 5:09 pm by Mrs. Crepe

We last left off with my boutonniere making adventure. I’m just going to follow up here with how I finished them off with ribbons!

At first, I wasn’t really sure how I wanted them to look, so I took a couple of quick photos to shoot them over to Mr. Crepe to see what he thought.

I liked the twine because it looked cute and rustic, but he wasn’t crazy about it.

This navy blue and gold cord was his favorite.

So I chose this vintage blue grosgrain ribbon to match the navy cord.

After finishing the boutonnieres with royal blue grosgrain, I felt like the stems were too long so I broke up all the blue with a piece of paper twine that I found laying around. (I may be a little bit of a pack rat.) I’m still trying to figure out where I got it. A piece of raffia would have worked well here too!

I decided that these larger bouts would be for MIL Crepe and Mama Crepe. The wide, light colored ribbon here is jute and I think it adds an interesting texture.

I added a piece of mossy green velvet to make these a little more special for our dads.

And finally, Mr. Crepe’s boutonniere! I am thinking of adding a little gold ribbon to wrap around the middle of the stem, but right now I’m undecided.

I also made a follow up illustration for you on how I wrapped the boutonnieres:

In the top row, for every spot where the ribbon connected to another part of ribbon, I added a dot of hot glue before moving on. You only need a little bit of it to hold it all together- too much glue and it starts to show through the ribbons.

To make the bows like the ones for our mamas, you fold the left side tail down and then bring it over the top, covering the end of the ribbon. Bring it down again and secure it in the back with a dot of hot glue.

Hooray! I’m so happy that I’m finished with this project. They are all wrapped up in tissue paper and ready to come with me on my next trip to Nashville, which is TOMORROW! It’s going to be a busy trip as we wrap up meetings with our vendors/friendors and work on favors. I’ll finally be spending some time with Mr. Crepe and working on the wedding is going to be much more fun with him around. (I hope! Is that naive of me to think so?)

See you in the South!
