Mrs. Pretzel's Picture
Mrs. Pretzel, Seattle Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer Engagement Date: September 2, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married. Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
About Mrs. Pretzel

Before our wedding day the only people who had seen my dress were Mr Pretzel, Mamma Pretzel, and Sue the seamstress. I didn’t even share photos with you, dear hive. I’m stingy, I know. My knee-length dress was made of white dupioni silk with a Chantilly lace over a turquoise satin midriff. The dress design was selected by Mr Pretzel. It had arrived months before the wedding and required multiple “repairs” by my dress angel Sue. On the day of our wedding the dress was in a word, heavenly.

I imagine that for brides with traditional long dresses, putting the dress on requires assistance from one or more people. It was almost laughable how many “hands on deck” we had to help me get into my short dress. With the exception of slipping the dress over my head, it was a one Pretzel job.

First things first, I needed to slip into my crinoline.

Knowing that I would be dressing for a crowd i had Sue extend the fabric top of the crinoline to make a modesty skirt.

I was glad to have my niece with us when we were getting ready.

On the other side of the church, ironically in the “bride’s room,” the guys were getting ready. Well, a couple of the groomsmen had changed at home, so technically they were waiting for everyone else to get ready.

In the Bride’s room, Mr P’s boutonniere had just been delivered. He had insisted on a real flower boutonniere and his groomsmen all sported crepe paper or fabric bouts that I had DIYed. He loved the orange calla lily bout our florist made up for him.

The boutonnieres threw these smart guys for a curve ball. I chuckle when I look at the series of photos documenting their struggle and can only make up a funny dialogue in my head.

The ushers: “How are you pinning it?”

Twisted Together: Getting Dressed : wedding pictures pro pics recap seattle 5527732 5527732

“Hmm, I think the pin should fit here”

Twisted Together: Getting Dressed : wedding pictures pro pics recap seattle 5527728 5527728

“Maybe I can just hold it in place”

Twisted Together: Getting Dressed : wedding pictures pro pics recap seattle 5527733 5527733

“no really, where does the pin go?”

Twisted Together: Getting Dressed : wedding pictures pro pics recap seattle 552773201 552773201

“Two pins, OK, I think it’s going to stay put”

The Pretzels were ready for a first look and none too soon because I was dying to see my groom.

Need to catch up?

Your dress is so cute and you’re so beautiful! Congrats on the choice, it suits you perfectly! I’ve also decided to go the custom made route, I like the freedom it gives me in choosing all the little details :-)
