Mrs. Jellyfish's Picture
Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force Pilot Engagement Date: February 21, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery About Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!
About Mrs. Jellyfish

Last we left off, we had just been pronounced husband and wife.

“Please join me in welcoming…Mr. and Mrs. Garrett and Monica Jellyfish!”

I love my MOH’s giddy expression in this picture.

Our DJ then cued the song we had chosen to walk back up the aisle to. The lyrics of this song resonated with me even when we first started seriously dating…”Wouldn’t it be nice if we were older, and we wouldn’t have to wait so long…you know it’s going to me it that much better, when we can say goodnight and stay together…we could be married, and then we’d be happy, wouldn’t it be nice?” LOVE. Such a happy song, and it was so perfect for the way we felt at that moment.

We made our way back up the aisle, towards the saber arch.

I don’t know how much of you know about saber arches, but here’s how they typically work. When the bride and groom make it almost to the end of the arch, the saber dudes (technical term) stop them and request a kiss. Not ones to mess with tradition, our saber dudes asked us to kiss.

So we obliged.

But it wasn’t over just yet…see Mr. Jelly’s brother’s face in the picture below? He’s got something up his sleeve…

I love how he’s actually licking his lips in anticipation.

Ah yes, the traditional “welcome to the military” swat to the bride’s backside. Wouldn’t be a military saber arch without it.

We don’t have any shots of the actual swat in action, but I think our expressions say it all.

We also had a saber arch for our wedding. Well, actually swords and sabers, since I’m Navy and he’s Army! Since I was already in the military, the saber swat was not enacted on me. Instead, my brother smacked my groom on the butt and said “Welcome to the Navy!”

Great saber arch pictures.
“Wouldn’t It Be Nice” has been our song since high school… love that you used it as a recessional!

Ha! Before I saw the pictures I thought you meant the saber guys requested a kiss FROM the bride . . . weird since you just got married, but hey, whatever!

A swat to the Bride’s backside to welcome her to the military? Sounds like my kind of wedding! Gotta love tradition :)

Lovely. My in-laws did the same thing when they got married and I love looking at those photos.

Your parents are some seriously snazzy dressers!
