The End of the Projects

March 17th, 2011 @ 10:14 am by Mrs. Hippo

With the Hippo wedding in sight, King Hippo and I spent much of last weekend running errands and finishing up last minute wedding projects so that we could pack them up and send them to Dallas. Note to self: Two day shipping of semi-heavy stuff is expensive! For those of you planning out of town weddings, I highly recommend planning far enough ahead so that you can ship at a slower rate of service. Lesson learned.

Our first order of business was finishing up the gifts for the groomsmen. In addition to the wedding ties we are gifting them, King Hippo wanted the guys to have some fun socks. Luckily, we found the perfect pair in our wedding colors.

Even though the price tag said the socks were $16, somehow when the salesperson rang up the five pairs, they came out at $2.98 each.

I’m not sure if it was a super duper sale or a gigantic mistake, but these Hippos were not going to raise any flags. King Hippo also got the guys a really nice pair of cuff links. We figured it would be something they could definitely keep and use indefinitely.

After the shopping was done, it was time to get serious with the crafting projects I’ve been putting off. I’ve been contemplating how our rings would be passed during the ring warming ceremony for a while now. I wanted to DIY something while not spending a lot of money. An alchemy request for wooden blocks and some acrylic paint and wired ribbon in our wedding colors later, I ended up with these wooden ring cubes:

OK, so they’re not the most amazing DIY craft ever, and I wish the yellow block and the yellow ribbon matched better, but they are cute enough and functional. King Hippo’s band will be tied to one block, and my two rings will be tied to the other and they’ll be past amongst our guests.

King Hippo put his stapling skills to work as we printed and assembled our wedding programs.

And King Hippo and I put in some extra time at the office in order to truly not think about anything work related for a full two weeks. Whew!

What’s left is packing…and then we’re off! I will of course stop in pre-wedding to wish you all adieu as a Miss bee!

Love those socks and score on the price!! If it was a mistake, I also agree on you to not raise any issues, as normally these things balance themselves out! My mom is super careful when shopping and it always checking her receipts and you would not believe how often she is overcharged! Sometimes she gets something extra, but it’s seldom compared to the times she is overcharged…
