Some time ago, I wrote about how I was anxious about finding a gift for Mr. Cardigan. He had been bragging for months about how he knew the perfect gift for me, and how proud he was of himself. So, needless to say, on our wedding day I was very, very excited to open my gifts. So excited, in fact, that I couldn’t wait until our photographer arrived and decided we should open them first thing in the morning (which is why you may notice that my hair isn’t done in these photos).
We had written letters for one another a year prior to the wedding, and we finally got to read them that morning. It was so special to read the words he had written for me a whole year ago in anticipation for this day!
Let’s start with Mr. Cardy.

He started by reading the letter.
He’s used to reading these letters as he’s been getting them every year since our first anniversary, but this was the first year that he had written one to me, too! I’d like to think that he wanted to cry from how touching my letter was, but he just held back the tears so he could look macho in front of his friends.
Then, it was time to open the presents! I’m not sure who was taking these photos, but I’m totally grateful because I seriously think they took about 100 photos of him opening his gifts. I almost feel like I got to see it in person, because every emotion was captured!

The cufflinks were up first (check out this post if you want to see details on what I got him):

That’s his “this is really awesome” face, so I know he liked them. Oh, but get this. I didn’t find out until AFTER the wedding that he wasn’t actually wearing a shirt that was compatible with cufflinks. Apparently, only certain shirts are and the ones that our guys were wearing were not the right type. So he didn’t get to wear them after all. Bummer!
Next up, the winery membership. He was very confused when he first opened the box…

But once he realized what it was, he was pretty happy.

And then, he was finished and it was time to go back to hanging out with the guys!

(And here’s a totally unnecessary photo of Mr. Cardy and Mr. Socks. Just ’cause it makes me smile.)
Meanwhile, back in the bridal suite, I was (finally!) opening my much-anticipated gifts. His letter contained detailed instructions on how I was supposed to open the gifts, so I started with the first one he told me to open—the one he told me was my “something new” for the day of the wedding (although he knew I wouldn’t be wearing it at the wedding):

Now, this was the gift that Mr. Cardy had been bragging about for oh-so-long. It was something that I had been lusting over for quite some time but would never buy for myself. I knew I was going to love it the second I saw the first hint of color from the box it was in.

My very own little blue box! Surprisingly, even when I saw the Tiffany box, I still wasn’t exactly sure what it was. Apparently I had forgotten about the necklace I’d been obsessed a few months prior. But, once I got it out of the box all of the memories of lingering on this photo on the Tiffany website came flooding back, and I was very excited.

It’s kind of hard to see here, but here’s a photo of me wearing it on our honeymoon:

(I’m pouting because of the sunburn, if you didn’t catch that. Yeah, let’s just ignore my silly face and look at the pretty necklace!)
After the necklace, his letter went on to talk about the other things in the “something old, something new” rhyme, and explained that there is another part of the rhyme that most people don’t know.
The full rhyme is, in fact:
Something old,
Something new,
Something borrowed,
Something blue,
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.

He included a sweet note at the bottom of the box, as well:

And last, but certainly not least, I opened one more present. This present was something that Mr. Cardigan had been practically begging me to buy myself for months but that I had never got around to getting. I’m terrible at buying things for myself, so he finally gave up and just bought it for me.

Super cute yellow Converse! I had been planning on wearing gray Converse on the day of the wedding to match my bridesmaids, but the yellow ones are way more fun, no?
I absolutely LOVE the gifts that Mr. Cardigan gave me, and I wear the necklace and shoes very frequently. I definitely think that his gifts lived up to the hype that he created for them!
Next up, it’s time to get pretty!
Did you/are you planning to exchange gifts on your wedding day?
