About Ms. Sloth

I Can’t Believe It…

March 21st, 2011 @ 6:33 pm by Ms. Sloth

…but after just a little cajoling from me and a lot of convincing from my friends, Mr. S has finally agreed that we can have a first dance, as long as we don’t have a bouquet and garter toss (which I’ve never wanted in the first place), and as long as he can choose the song.

But Mr. S was having trouble deciding. While I’d been leaning towards some indie first dance songs, Mr. S wanted something classic, an oldie. But beyond that, he was drawing a blank. So I offered to put together a large list of classic love songs for him to choose from, and he went for it.

Here are the songs I chose:

The Flamingos “I Only Have Eyes For You”

Nat King Cole “When I Fall in Love”

Elvis Presley “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You”

The Jackson Five “I’ll Be There”

Al Green “Let’s Stay Together

The Association “Never My Love”

After listening to all of these songs, Mr. S had no problem choosing a winner:

I Can't Believe It... : wedding dance music philadelphia Jackson Jackson

I’ll Be There” by the Jackson Five is our first dance song!

We plan on dancing alone on the dance floor for the first 60 second of the song, and then our DJ will invite all other couples up to join us.

What did you choose for your first dance song?

The future hubsand only requested three things for the wedding, although I infused his hobbies and likes into the wedding alot more than what he asked for. One of the things he asked for was for us to do dance to Brad Paisley’s “Then” for our first dance. How could I not oblige him? I am so excited for our first dance. I am not sure yet if we will included the bouquet and garter toss. We’re having a short cocktail reception (3.5 hours) and I don’t want to take time away from dancing for these events.

We chose: Al Green “Let’s Stay Together”

We both really liked the song, plus it is relatively short :)

That was my choice for you too! It will be great. It’s such a beautiful, meaningful song.

And kudos on getting Mr. Sloth to compromise. Sometimes I pretend stuff I don’t care about is important me so that Mr. Biscuit will “compromise” with me. Master of manipulation? Yup, that’s me.

LOVE the idea of inviting guests to join after a minute or so…I am not the type who wants to be the center of attention (although I know that will be hard that day). We are dancing to The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra. We have our first dance lesson tonight!

Mr. Crown and I have chosen “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts. We’re not really country music folks, but the lyrics fit us spot-on.

We’re probably going with “Your Song” by Elton John. (About a year ago, my future in-law’s invited me to his concert with them and my man, and Elton played it as an encore. We stood, his arms around me, swaying and singing along to the song while Elton sang.)

My husband chose “Marry Me” by Train as our song for our 11/6/10 wedding b/c it wasn’t being played on the radio much at the time. Now he changes the station after the song plays for a few seconds…he doesn’t ever want it to become one of those songs he hears so much he gets tired of it :) haha! That was part of why he chose it. He wasn’t too into the wedding planning but he searched the internet to find our first dance song and I get tears in my eyes every time I hear it. It was perfect.

Good job! We picked Real Love by The Beatles. And we also opted against bouquet and garter toss, FTR!

awwww! yay for a first song!

I doubt we’ll even have one, lol. For one thing, my FI doesn’t like dancing (no biggie since I’m right there with him!). In fact, I’m not even interested in a father-daughter dance or anything else dance-related for the wedding.

though, knowing our friends, they’ll probably shove us onto the dance floor anyway! LOL!

Aww what a great choice! We totally went off the wall and danced to a theory of a dead man song. Got to love rock music. ;)

we choose. “Everything” by Michael Buble. It was our song when we started dating and it is a nice upbeat number so maybe we can add some twirls and dips!
