Mrs. Earrings's Picture
Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student Engagement Date: February 14, 2010 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Gardens of the World About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
About Mrs. Earrings

A Midsummer Dream: Girl Becomes Bride : wedding new zealand pictures pro pics recap 1 1

My face in the above photo is saying, “AHHHH! THIS IS HAPPENING!” and, “Please fit!” as my mother laced me up. Fans of How I Met Your Mother: You know the scene where Lily and Marshall’s wedding is looming, and she tries on her dress and it falls right off? Yeah, well up until three days before the wedding, I had Lily’s problem. Unfortunately, Lily’s solution (eat a bucketload of fudge) didn’t work for me. Luckily, a lovely friend (who designs wedding gowns on the side, and also happened to have a 2 week old baby!), took on the task, and solved the problem by adding some ribbon lacing under the dress zipper.

A couple times throughout the day though, my dress would inch down and it had to be laced up again, but I was just hugely relieved not to flash everyone during the ceremony.

Side note: At the end of the day, because of the way the lacing went around me, and how tight it had to be done up, I had giant criss-cross shaped bruises across my stomach and back! Sexy. Who would have thought you could suffer harm at the “hands” of a wedding dress?! The pain was totally worth it, by the way. :)

My sisters look on

After the dress was on, my bridesmaids helped me with my jewellery and other bits and pieces.

On goes the garter (not very gracefully).

Then, while my hair and makeup artist started pinning in my veil, the bridesmaids had a few portrait opportunities.

The last of the pins went into my hair, the veil was fluffed up, and with that, I was a true-blue bride!

Anyone else’s wedding dress happen to leave them with bruises?

Next up: I strike some poses!

Getting ready shots are some of my favorites; these are no exception. (And if I end up with bruises, it’ll be my own clumsy fault!)
