Favor Flavors

March 22nd, 2011 @ 8:36 am by Mrs. Crepe

(Today’s post title is brought to you by Mr. Crepe.)

I’ve been spending the last couple of days getting settled into Nashville and spending some quality time with Mr. Crepe and his family. One of the things we’ve been waiting on were our favors because I had all the supplies shipped here.

Mr. Crepe and I have always loved the idea of doing food-type favors: jams, spreads and candies. Every time we walked through a local fair and passed a jam stand, we would talk about having cute little jars at our future wedding. But at $3-4 a jar, they were too pricey for us. Favors were actually an item that we were on the fence about due to budget. Both of us have received favors in the past that we didn’t end up getting much use out of, so neither of us were looking forward to spending money on more stuff.

That is, until about a couple months ago.

I was browsing around online and came across a photo of sea salt in a glass bottle. After a few web searches, I realized that this was perfect for us! Both the glass bottles and pink Himalayan salt were readily available in bulk online and each favor came in at around $1.50 each. Mr. Crepe was already sold on the fact that it was a food item and loved the little corked bottles that looked similar to the vintage bottles we were using in our centerpieces.

This weekend, he got to work washing the bottles and filling them.

There were quite a few bottles to get through..

So it was a good thing he had an assistant.

I am in LOVE with the fact that #1: they are in our colors and #2: they have cute little cork tops!! And hopefully, everyone will find a use for them. We’ll finish them up by adding some sort of tag, tied on with a bit of twine.

Did you also find yourself unexpectedly excited about your favors?

This is totally a edible favor! Who wouldn’t want Himalayan salt??? We have a couple different fancy salts like these for when we make olive oil dip, bruschetta, etc.

Great idea! I especially love the orange cat (we have 2!). Our colors are pink and black…I may have to “borrow” your idea ;)

Love this idea! Salt was once used as currency because it was so valuable, so great favor!

@pinkandsparkly: I have two orange cats as well! Aren’t they adorable? :D

Cute idea with the salts! I was really excited about handing out wine glass favors, but budget cuts means we’ll be looking at other options. We’ll have to keep this in mind.

These look totally awesome; I am slightly obsessed with the corks. They will look so fab with twine!

Oh, and your cat rocks. Just sayin’

Wow, really cool and innovative. I am drowning in corks right now because I am using them for my escort cards. Anyhow, I still haven’t come up with favors. Yours are really cute.
