Mrs. Magic's Picture
Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NC Age and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Researcher Engagement Date: December 1, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Barn at Valhalla About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!
About Mrs. Magic

Themes and Gilmore Girls

March 22nd, 2011 @ 3:57 pm by Mrs. Magic

I’m not really into wedding themes. Maybe because I can’t pick one. I am a Gemini, after all!

Vintage? Carnival? Nature-y? Colorful and flowerful? Modern? Classic? Yes, please. I love them all!

So once we decided on the season, I started thinking about what we (OK, I—let’s be real here) wanted our wedding to look like. My stream of consciousness went a little something like this…

…I love fall. All the pretty trees. Trees are good. Kind of unoriginal, though. Let’s see…leaves. Lots of colors. Green, yellow, orange. Jack-o’-lanterns. Pumpkins. Pumpkin spice latte. Coffee shops.

College. I wish I were in college again. Midterms suck, though. I could rock some corduroy skirts with tights and boots in a coffee shop. Let’s go shopping. Budget. Bills. Ick. Stressed. Need coffee.

Boots! Why don’t boots ever fit right? Hockey puck, rattlesnake, monkey monkey underpants…

I think I am just a little bit all over the place, like Lorelai in this clip from the best show ever, AKA Gilmore Girls.

Ahem. Time to FOCUS.

Recently BM Pumpkin and I went to check out the site to see how it looks this time of year, since this time next year I’ll be gettin’ hitched there! I noted that the pond looks a bit, um, murky, so maybe we could get married in front of a tree instead…the tree in the top center of the montage below.

Then, it just all clicked…well, after BM Pumpkin suggested it! We could also do a tree guestbook!

Do I sense a theme coming on? You tell me!

From top left, clockwise: montage of beribboned trees, my ceremony tree photo, tree guestbook, Mrs. Sand Dollar’s guest bench, ceremony set-up, tree inspiration

Plus, we have this amazing tree picture from our engagement shoot!

Maybe we can have our “sitting in a tree” pic blown up on a canvas and hung up? Or put beside our guestbook tree? Maybe include a tree carved with a heart and our initials on our invite? It’s not super original…but does it have to be? And is this a THEME, per se, or just part of our decor style? I’m thinking more the latter, but you tell me!

We are also doing tree wedding favors to help the carbon cost of the wedding. I love your inspiration photos!

I must confess, I also love me some trees but when I showed my SO and Mom the thumbprint tree they had all sorts of objections! “No one will do that.”, “It’s messy.”, “What if they mess up?” So I found a solution.

Hopefully you find the perfect tree for you and Mr. Magic!

I was sooo anti-theme but but trees keep popping into my designs, so there you go. Our venue is surrounded by trees, I’ve always loved them (even after doing a whole woodland themed nursery for my son!) and despite my efforts to avoid themes… I just may have one.

To me a theme, is vetoing anything that’s doesn’t fit the THEME. We’re just choosing things that we like, and they all happen to be nature inspired!

Hmm….I am a Gemini too and that is exactly how my brain works. My man does have endless amounts of fun asking me “What are you thinking about right now?”.

i would do a request through ETSY and have the picture of you painted on cavas (sans the leaves) then have the guests put them back in with their finger prints…

A bee after my own heart… may I just say you are not alone in suffering from the Lorelai Gilmore Syndrome. I too find myself frequently undergoing this mental status while wedding planning or just existing… Btw wedding month twin I love your unexpected tree theme.

I was so hoping you were going to have a Gilmore Girls theme! (Minus the broken engagements and stuff of course.) The Dragonfly Inn!
