About Ms. Sloth

Tuesday Shoesday

March 22nd, 2011 @ 11:36 am by Ms. Sloth

When I finally, finally, finally settled on a dress, I was pretty stoked, because both pairs of shoes I’d bought would still work with it. Yay!

And then my never-worn $15 ceremony shoes broke when I tried them on. The strap just snapped in half! THE HORROR! I bought them so long ago that they are sold out everywhere online. They are long, long gone.

But they were only $15, and I said to myself, “Eh. I’ll find another pair of ceremony shoes.”

And then, I figured out what I’m going to wear in my hair. I’ll save that announcement for another time, but suffice it to say that it is faaaaaabulous (and some of you may recognize it from another bee, but that’s all I’m saying right now)!

And my amazeballs new hair accessory doesn’t go with those Vivienne Westwood jelly flats. Not at all. But I bought those flats with a gift card, and I can sell them on eBay or something at a profit, so no worries, really.

Well, except that now, less than two months away from the wedding, I have no shoes!

I needed some shoes that were either grey or not-too-shiny silver. And so I did what I do best: online shopping.

I found a pair of shoes on Endless that were just adorable, and ordered them toot de suite:

But when they showed up, they looked like this:

…the hell? They are dark and super-crackly. I think that the photos on Endless.com really misrepresented the crackled finish of the shoes. I actually really like them, but they are way too tough and modern for my dress. I sort of want to keep them to wear with other things, but we’ll see.

So now I’m looking for a pair of shoes. I have a very specific pair in my mind and they just don’t exist in the real world. I want my shoes to be:

Silver or grey

  • Not sparkly or bejeweled (but a rosette or bow is okay)
  • Not too strappy (I want pumps, not sandals)
  • Open-toed
  • Low or medium heeled (between 2 - 3.5 inches high)
  • Vintage-inspired
  • Under $150

But all of the shoes I see that are the right shape aren’t the right color…

And all of the grey and silver shoes I find are missing one or more of my criteria:

Bejeweled - NO!

Sparkly - NO!

$325 - NO! (Kate Spade, you are killing me)

I go for my first dress fitting in two weeks, and the seamstress tells me that it’s very important that I bring my shoes along. Yikes!

Did you have a last-minute scramble to find part of your wedding-day ensemble? Also, have you seen my magical, non-existent dream shoes anywhere? ;)

Why not stick with the pink and get the first pair with the little bow? I think they’d be darling with your dress!

@808mjm202: With the headpiece I’m wearing, I need to stick with a neutral shoe. Pink would be way too much.

@TheFutureMcBride: I actually have those bookmarked as a maybe! I don’t love them, but I like them enough that if I don’t find anything better, I may go for it.

@Miss Sloth: Yeah, they’re good, but they’re not the perfect sheos for your awesome dress.

Stick with the first pair and get ‘em fixed! It’ll probably cost $10-15 and you already love the shoes!

@mdarrah: I can’t. :( After the pink shoes broke, I got my new hair accessory, and I can’t wear pink with it anymore.

I don’t know if these are too bright silver (less pewter than your inspiration pics), but just in case:

I am feeling your shoe pain…I bought my lovelies last year and heart them so much. But I started dance classes yesterday and don’t know if they will work for dancing. Do I become a 2-3 shoe bride or return the ones I love and get a new pair that will work for all wedding functions?

How about these? My favorite site for these situations is http://www.shopstyle.com

Type in your search, in this case “grey peep toe pumps” and it compiles options from a ton of websites… in this case, over 200 options.

Yikes! Those shoe are horrible. That is such a misrepresentation.

I would totally steer you towards target. I found my shoes there and they were CHEAP!

There are also a few on Target.com, but I can’t figure out how to link to a specific shoe w/o a super long address:
