I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!

Invitation Mash Up

March 23rd, 2011 @ 4:32 pm by Mrs. Tartlet

Hello, lovelies! Today we’re going to talk PAPER!

I confess that I’ve been in a long-term love affair with paper. Ever since grade school I remember enthusiastically awaiting the arrival of September, because that meant new. notebooks. I drove my poor mother up the wall scuttling up and down the aisles of various supply stores looking for just the right one. Don’t even get me started on pens. Fast forward two decades, and it’s no surprise that our wedding stationery must be just so. I scoured the internet for inspiration, and found a plethora of stationery with elements that I adored, starting with the layers of pink used for these gorgeous letterpress invitations:

I loved the cozy feeling this quilted background graphic imparts on these invites from Ruby & Willow:

We made boxed invitations a “must”—they would be such a surprise in everyone’s mailbox!

For so long I’ve admired Mrs. Gloss’ edge painting, and her invitations were what led me to find Weddingbee:

I went bonkers for the monogram font (Surrey) used in this suite:

Everything about Mrs. Scissors’ perfectly beautiful invitations are to die for:

And I’m smitten with the wild, whimsical calligraphy used for the bride and groom’s names:

Ultimately, we pulled details from these invitation suites (and others that I’m likely forgetting—my apologies!) to design our own. Thanks to our local letterpress savior, the talented Michelle Baker of Elevated Press, we were able to produce an invitation suite that we’re truly proud to call our own.

Now, I certainly can’t heap all that paper porn on you without a glimpse of what’s to come:

Stay tuned! Our invites should have reached their destinations by now, so I’ll be revealing the deets post haste. Were you able to find ready-to-order stationery that satisfied your wants, or did you end up designing your own?

I can’t wait to see them!
I have to admit that I was just like you at the beginning of the school year. My heart still gets all fluttery when I go look at stationary and writing utensils!

Yaaaaaaay these look so fabulous! I was totally a notebook hoarder; I love paper products. (I still hoard cards - birthday, wedding, just for kicks, etc.) Love.

@Miss Zebra: Thanks! ^_^
@Miss Elephant: The birdies (and the heart placement) were all Mr. Tartlet. They’ve become my favorite part of the invite!
@JNWhite: Haha! Everyone who knows me well just accepts my tendency to wander off when I see paper products or pens.
@Miss Candy Apple: Thanks, CA! I save *all* of my cards–birthday, Christmas, Valentines–I’m going to need a larger box, soon.
@Miss Lox: Lady, I have serious envy over your invites! The colors and design are just fab.
@missbiscuit: Aww, thank you!!!

The boxed invites with the green tees were done by a phenomenal graphic artist, who just so happened to be a bride I married last year. Melissa designed all of her paper stuff, and made these UBER-cute buttons for everyone to wear (”Bride,” “Groom,” “In Love,” “Single,” etc.) I’m going to consult with her to design my wedding logo.

@Miss Ostrich: Thanks, Miss O!
@Crown: OMG - I followed all of Melissa’s design work (that I could find online, at least) for her wedding. That makes me sound creep-tacular, but seriously–I love, love her style!

What about the misspelling of “calendars” on the invite from Ruby & Willow!?

@lainsayssup: Good catch! I hope they’ve fixed that typo, but thankfully I fell in love with their pattern (and not the spelling). ;)
@Miss Carousel: Thanks, C!
