Mrs. Jaguar's Picture
Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Curzon Hall About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
About Mrs. Jaguar

Could You Take My Picture

March 23rd, 2011 @ 5:17 pm by Mrs. Jaguar

The whole pre-wedding photo session seems to be a fairly common thing these days, though it wasn’t something I was familiar with until I got engaged myself. And since Mr. Jaguar is incredibly shy, I was really excited to give him the chance to meet with our photographer, Andrew from Follan Photography. We booked with Andrew back in April 2010 (the things you do when you love a photographer!) and we left it until   this year to contact him about setting up the shoot—and we nearly almost missed out on it. It turns out that the Follans had re-worked their packages during the time we’d put down our deposit, and a pre-wedding shoot was no longer complimentary—but thankfully, Andrew decided to honour us with the shoot for booking so early!

The thing is, I’m not sure what to expect, and I think wedding world is to blame for that! I’ve seen so many gorgeous shoots with props, with awesome locations, with all these added extras that make the pictures really pop. There have been outfit changes and location changes, all of these fabulous shots…wow. I love them. I could spend (and have spent) hours ogling pretty pictures online.

Only our shoot…well, it’s tomorrow.

And while I’ve been looking forward to this photo-shoot for months, now that it’s just around the corner, I’m freaking out. Add in the perfect timing of a) roaring PMS, b) a chesty cough and second cold for the year, and c) a whopping lovely scab right in the corner of my mouth, thanks to Oscar-cat having a spazz attack during cuddle time the other night, and I’m feeling a tad less than photogenic, if you know what I mean.

Could You Take My Picture : wedding photography sydney 111 11

We’re going to a park about a 40 minutes’ drive away for the shoot, so it should be fairly isolated with some pretty backdrops—but we’re meeting at 4.30PM so won’t have a lot of time there. I think I’m going to wear a dress, but I’m not sure if there’s time (or place to change!) into a second outfit, so I’m hoping it’s going to look okay and will be flattering. I do know that I’m looking forward to seeing my gorgeous makeup and hair stylist, Jenny from Le Fabulous, once more. She’s going to work her magic into a nice hairstyle for me for the photos, and I want to experiment with the makeup again—particularly with the eyes.

But that’s about as far as I’ve gotten. We don’t have any props, though we can probably scrounge one or two up if need be. Mr. Jaguar is already nervous, so I’m hoping that the drive out to the venue will help him relax.  And if all else fails, I’ll resort to my standby actions for when he’s feeling awkward about posing: the butt pinch. It always works. ;)

I’m still really looking forward to getting some quality photographs of the us, since we don’t take nearly enough pictures of us as a couple, especially now that we’re done with the travelling! I’ll definitely share the results with you once they’re back…but for now, I’m going to work on sucking my gut in, practising the best angles for not seeing flabby bits, and attempting to leave this effing scab alone.

How did you combat the nerves for your engagement photo shoot?

Us Hyenas always combat nerves by being goofy … but I’m sure your photog is used to nervous couples and will find a way to put you at ease!

I was really nervous/excited the day of our e-pics, then we had to reschedule the first time, after getting hair and makeup done..grr!! The photographer was sick.
Last Sat was our rescheduled day and I found that when you are working with a great photographer all your nerves are gone. We had so much fun. She put us both at ease. I brought 2 outfits because I was indesisive about what I wanted to wear and we brought a few props, a paper heart, big wooden ampersand, and a fedora. I can’t wait to share them.
My advice: Bring examples of pics you love, my photographer was glad I had them and just be yourself and have fun. You will have great pics!

We were both nervous as well and thought the photos would be totally goofy. We didn’t use props and just picked a location that would be very different than our wedding location. We both wore jeans and kept it very casual. Our pics turned out great even though I felt so awkward! You will do great, just relax and laugh a lot…laughing makes for great photos. Our best pic was when we were laughing and talking about how stupid we felt. :)

We had our photos done in a fairly remote location also. I had 2 pair of shoes (one Red high heels), and we brought a few things that were “us”- a favorite book, his favorite hat (Boston redsox- which I ended up wearing for part of the shoot), and we picked up some flowers on the way (red to match the shoes I had). Just a few extra props made our shoot great. One thing you may want to do (if you have something laying around) is get a picture frame with either a blank page or a print out of “Thank You” in it -or your date- if you know it to have a few photos taken with. We should have and didn’t think of it until after. If you do the blank one, just know how to photoshop words onto it- and then you can make it say anything. You can use other things for this also- be creative! And just have fun with it!

I hope you have a great time! Mr. E was nervous when we were preparing to take ours, but our photographer was great at getting him to feel comfortable.

I know it may be hard to wrap your mind around, but perhaps you and the Mr. can pretend that you’re out in nature alone…try to forget that Andrew is with you. Enjoy the surroundings and each other, and have fun. Can’t wait to see the photos. Oh, and BTW, if Andrew’s worth his salt (and vendor fee), he is already well-versed in PhotoShop, which will be your BEST friend.

@Ms. Sparkles: Don’t even get me started on what to wear! I finally pulled a blue dress, so I’m hoping that’ll be it. We won’t be doing two outfits, so I hope I’ll look nice in this one! :)

@Miss Hyena: I’m all for the goof! I’m sure we’ll work it out.. all nerves aside!

If it helps, we didn’t change outfits or have props. And on the day of our e-pics I developed a crazy outbreak of excema on my face that would not be tamed. But then, this all reminds me that I also never really shared our e-pics here. Ooooops!

@SweetSara: Great advice! We ended up just with us, one outfit & a single prop that we used at the beginning, and that was that.. but it flowed really well. I hope they turn out okay!

@xtatic1: There was a LOT of talking & laughing.. so much so that our photographer told us to can it, haha. ;)

@OneLove04210: I wish I’d seen this before our shoot - we totally forgot to do this & it would’ve been perfect. I guess I’ll have to make sure we do one of those during the wedding photography!

@Miss Elephant: Mr. Jaguar really did relax at the end. He was super nervous until our photog talked to him about football! ;)

@Miss Ostrich: Haha, we were both driving, so no wine for us - but we tried our best to look photogenic! I hope it turned out. :)

@Crown: So true. I did have to giggle at Andrew’s ‘pretend I’m not here & stare out into the distance’ directions.. they kind of made me giggle and freak out. But it was fun!

Good luck for the shoot! I’m pretty sure that it will turn out great, as SweetSara said if your photographer is a pro he/she will know how to put you at ease! At least that’s what I’m hoping for as well - I really love my photographer (she’s super nice and funny) so I hope this will help in making us feel more comfortable

That was really nice of your photographer to still give you the e-pic shoot.

My FH tends to get the look that he doesn’t like me in pictures (imagine me with the super excited cheese and him with the serious face) so I learned to make him laugh or talk through the picture and he looks like he is smiling.

Can’t wait to see the pics… :-)

Ah! I knew where you were in this pic in about a millisecond, before I even noticed the awesomest-logo-in-the-world on your cup! (And really, butterbeer has a very distinct look to it, right?)

How did you like WWHP? I went in January and loved it! Little crowded though (UNDERSTATEMENT!)… I’m curious how you managed to get this photo with no one walking behind you??

I’m sure with a little makeup and photoshop the scab will become a distant memory. (thought I should at least throw a relevant comment in there.) :)

We just did our e-shoot on Sunday

1. I changed in the car in the parking lot where there were people nearby. No one noticed or saw anything!

2. I picked up a few props from a store, but found a TON of stuff at home that I never knew could work.

Good luck! It will go great.
