Mrs. Giraffe's Picture
Mrs. Giraffe, Chicago Age and Occupation: 23, Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Music Student Teacher Engagement Date: October 23, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Trinity Lutheran Church & Idlewild Country Club About Me: Coming from the suburbs of the Windy City, you'll often find me with my foot in my mouth while laughing for no reason or telling bad knock knock jokes. I've been crafty for as long as I can remember, and will DIY something twice over before I have someone do it for me. I'm a semi-awkward, typeface obsessed, design junkie and have been know to break out my dance moves for no reason as well as try my best to be ridiculous at all times. My love of pop culture, wordplay, and graph paper almost rivals my love of Mr. Giraffe (who is just the bee's knees). After a 2.5 year engagement, we're planning a modern-in-disguise traditional wedding, and cannot wait!
About Mrs. Giraffe

Wedding Worthy Up Dos

March 23rd, 2011 @ 6:58 pm by Mrs. Giraffe

You guys, there are many things that I don’t care about, my appearance being one of them. This doesn’t mean that I always look sloppy, but I’m certainly no fashionista, and most days I leave the house without looking at a mirror.

I don’t know, that’s just the way I’ve always been. It took me until my senior year of college to finally brush my hair all the way through every day. I know, I know, its terrible, but I’ve just never been into it. Nowadays, I do brush my hair, but that’s about it. (Although, I carry around a pony tail elastic in case there is a hair in face situation). When I had long hair, I’d twist it up into a hair lump every day because it was always in my way, but I don’t do that as much anymore.

Suffice it to say, I want to do something a little more fancy for the wedding. Granted, a little more fancy might be enough, so I think I might go big. I’m thinking maybe an up do? Those always look nice in pictures.

Granted, my lack of hair smarts kind of mean that almost all up dos look identical to me, but I reallllly am making an effort to find something that I like and that is appropriate for a traditional wedding.

That’s it, but I don’t think this is over yet, team. Updo, half up do, quarter updo? Up do and a half? You haven’t heard the last from this Giraffe. :)

How did you choose your wedding hair? Really, I could use some tips!

I have yet to choose my wedding hair, but I am really digging that messy, low bun pic with the sideswept bangs.

I’ve been thinking of the same thing lately! I’m a big fan of the side, loose bun with the sideswept bangs too!! :) that’s been my number one pick since my hair doesn’t hold a curl very well.

Style #4 is gorgeous, but I also like #6 for an elegant, streamlined look!

I chose mine based on the weather….hot=hair up!

My suggestion is to try several styles (at one sitting…the stylist can take down and put back up), taking photos from all angles for each style to help you to decide. The name of the game is whether 1) you feel beautiful; 2) you still look like Miss Giraffe; 3) you’re comfortable; and 4) you won’t have to futz with it on the day-of.

I’m in the same boat! I never do anything with my hair besides wash it 3ish times a week, brush it daily, and pull it up into a ponytail/loop every morning. When I’m feeling fancy, I’ll use my scrunchie that looks like curled hair. : D

Since I always wear my hair up, I’ll be wearing it down for my wedding. I’m planning on medium-curls (big, loose ones, but still bouncy and definitely NOT loose enough that they fall apart into waves at the end of the night). I picked this back when we were planning a summer picnic wedding & I was going to be all hippie-flower-child with long hair and bare feet and a “fancy sundress” and a daisy chain holding my veil on, but I like the idea of wearing my hair down for my wedding so much (just for the change!) that I’m sticking with it, even though we changed our original plans.

I do like the look of those updos, though. : ) Personally, I would go for something like the first one or second from last.

I love the last picture. It’s intricate but not too intricate. It would look nice for you on your wedding. As a black woman, it’s hard for me to imagine my hair being long enough to get caught on a car door. It sounds so painful. Ouch :(

I really love the first one and the second to last one. I think that if you want to step out of your box (from what I’ve gathered) I’d go more towards #1. If you wanted to stay a little more “you” then the second to last one is like a fancy smancy pontail!

For me I just want to look like a better version of myself…a more done up. I think it could def be fun to do a drastically different look too though.

Hmmmm. Im gonna have a hard time too.

I love Hairstyle 3 and 4! You cant go wrong with any of them though.

Third image, it has such a nice shape to it. The others, to me, just don’t seem to have very much going on in terms of overall composition.

I really like 2 and 4… I picked my hairstyle based on what works best with my dress.
You know you can always ask your FH how he would like to see your hair he may be helpful.

I love number 5 - saved it for myself as well ;-)
I haven’t chosen my hairdo yet but do have some requirements:
1. Needs to fit my hair form so that it’ll look ok even if my hair gets wet (if it rains)
2. Needs to be a hairstyle I am comfortable with. I’m always touching and twirling my hair when I’m nervous so a too tight updo would never work for me!
3. Mr. Caro needs to like it. As I already know he prefers my hair curly, it must have some curls with it.
This is for me but perhaps you can also come up with your own requirements!

Here’s how I try and find some hair inspiration pictures: pick a celebrity whose style you like, or whose hair is similar to yours. Go to google image search, and type in “celebrity name red carpet” (and maybe toss in the word hair). There, you can see a bunch of different types of hairstyles on a person who is “familiar” to you, making it easier (in my opinion) to judge which ones you like. And, red carpet events are so effing inundated with cameras that there’s usually a photo of any hairstyle from any angle. Good luck!

I utilized Glamour.com beauty blog.. you can browse through specific styles (braids, updos, etc) and often there will be celebrity as well as real life photos of hair styles.

I just had my hair trial Tuesday night and we decided on a side pony with all the bits of hair looped all over and around each other to create an interesting bun effect!
