Five years ago today, Mr. P and I had our first date. You know, the one with the coffee and sushi.
Where the heck did the last five years go? It doesn’t feel like that long, but when I actually think about all the trips, events, and life we’ve been through in that time…wow, we’ve covered a lot of ground.
2006
My first sailing trip (and overnight on the boat)
Summer wedding (and his first time meeting my extended family)
2007
Out to dinner in NYC
Back on the boat
2008
Spring trip to Napa/Sonoma
Having fun with our Halloween costumes

A week-long combined family trip to the Outer Banks
The moms thought he was going to propose that summer…he waited until November.
2010
Fourth of July, engaged 8 months with 11 more to go
Fall wedding (second wedding while engaged)
Instead of going out to celebrate, I picked up Chinese take-out after yoga, and we watched a movie from under cozy blankets. My fortune cookie read: “Now and then it’s good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy.” OK. Got it, fortune cookie.
How do you mark significant milestones in your relationship?
Aww! Mr. M. and I were together for 5 years when we got married. Best 5 years ever. 
Congrats on reaching the five year milestone! We try to set aside time for a “date night” to celebrate. 
No work, no wedding, just us.
Five years is an awesome achievement. Mucho congrats. (How quickly did THAT go, eh?)

For me and my FI - we try to celebrate our milestones…usually with a night out to dinner, as a ‘date night’ I also like to refer to it as ‘you and me’ time.
When my FI and I celebrated out 5 years, it was an interesting feeling….as it was the end of our ‘dating years’…and our next Anniversary won’t be for our ‘dating years’ anymore…we get married in April, so we’ll be celebrating our ‘married years’ and I look forward to that.
@Miss Tartlet: We try for date nights now and then, but as the wedding approaches, it’s so hard to squeeze it in and keep the wedding chatter out of it.@smiles1979: Our 5 year was actually in (early) February too. We always knew our first date was before Valentine’s Day but the actual date was a mystery until a year or so ago when I found an OLD email where I practically dared him to rescue me from work. And he showed up.
@smiles1979: All of our milestones over the last year were noted with a, “This our is last engaged X-day. Next year we’ll be *married*!”
Congratulations on your anniversary, five years is a lot together and seems like you made the most of that time!
