Mrs. Ostrich, San Francisco/Hawaii Age and Occupation: 30, Fashion Buyer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 38, Copywriter Engagement Date: October 4, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Sweet ceremony by the sea and sunset celebration on the North Shore of Hawaii About Me: Born in the city of angels and residing in the city by the bay, I’m a fearless fashion buyer by day, a passionate blog author by night and a dreamy bride-to-be in between. I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.

There Will Be No Dahlias....Or Confetti : wedding flowers hawaii 113 1

SOOOOO, we had our flower consultation call with our florist and wedding coordinator the other day.

…and this is what happened:

There Will Be No Dahlias....Or Confetti : wedding flowers hawaii 25 2

{source}

There Will Be No Dahlias....Or Confetti : wedding flowers hawaii 34 3

{source}

yep, dahlias are not in season (I knew this, but thought in the magical wedding world my wedding fairy would find some way for dahlias to bloom early enough for our wedding). Neither are cherry blossoms, which we wanted for Mr. O’s boutonniere.

Aaaaaand, we can’t throw confetti during our recessional, because it will make the ocean sad and kill the birds.

After hearing this news, I sat on the phone, mouth hanging open and eyes THIS BIG, frantically thinking of Ostrich Wedding Plan B.

My fellow bee brides, I highly recommend having a plan B…and sometimes a plan C, for your big wedding visions. Because as much as we wish and hope to get everything we dream of, sometimes lady luck hands you some lemons.

So I reached into my little “PLAN B” files and pulled out my just as fantastic alternates to see if these would work for our wedding.

Our florist and wedding planner checked, said YES, and I fist-pumped victoriously on the other end of the phone. YEA!!!!

So, do you wanna see what our Plan Bs are?

Wedding blooms: Instead of my magnificent dahlias, we’ll have oversized garden roses. The florist had all our other flowers available for my bouquet, which I was so freakin’ thrilled about: pink ice protea, ranunculus, hypericum berry, freesia, wax flowers and rosemary. Yaaaaay!

Confetti = NO.

Pretty fringe flags in different colors? HELL YES.

So, I will not mourn my dahlias or flurry of confetti. Instead, I will happily embrace my garden roses and fringe flags…because they’re just as awesome. :)

Now it’s your time to share: have you had to opt for Plan B for some of your wedding items? Or did everything go smoothly and perfectly? :)

Bhahahaha. “It will make the ocean sad and kill the birds.” I laughed so hard! Way to turn the ‘no’s’ into new and exciting ‘yeses’ Miss O!

I love your Plan B! Oversized garden roses? Twist my arm! The fringe flags are going to be awesome too. DIY?

I wanted a sparkler sendoff, but no fire-anything allowed at our venue so we switched the plan to rose petals, which were left in a hotel, so we got a tunnel of guests arms. You make the best of it!

Have you heard of the biodegradable confetti? I found this site: http://www.ecoparti.com/toec.html

Check it out, but if that doesn’t work then your other plans are awesome too!

How are you going to incorporate the fringe flags? I love them and I’m not sure if they fit with my wedding style or where I’d use them. Would love to hear your ideas!

I used Ecofetti (www.ecofetti.com) - worked wonderfully! Photos look great, too! Dissolves in water, and non-toxic. :)

Excellent Plan B! Way to super plan and stay optimistic. Your wedding is going to rock no matter what flowers you carry!

This post made me giggle, because I’ve totally been there with the “FAIL!” *scramble* “HELL YES!” transition. Your Plan B is perfect, and I adore garden roses (although I’m a bit biased since we’ll be using these as well)!

What about the biodegradable confetti that disintegrates as soon as water touches it? Of course, the flags are also super awesome so I understand if you’re totally attached already. ;)

Way to turn it around, O. LOVE flower posts, and yours look fab.

Also loled at the confetti reasoning about how it’ll make the ocean sad and kill the birds. Our list of no-nos was hilarious. Mylar balloons (NOOO! haha), fog machine (DAMMIT), and, d’oh, flower petals. You get good at getting around this stuff :)

Protea = totally rocks. Fringe flags = totally super awesome.

Glad you had a plan B that is AMAZING! Seriously. I love this. Screw the dahlias and confetti.

Yay for flags! A plus: no mess to clean up! And I love your flowers. The fact that they’re in season has given me slight anxiety, though. Because they might not be in season for me :(.

I am so glad you are happy with your plan b. They are lovely florals. We are in the admist of determining what is okay and what is not with our ceremony venue.
