Table Assignments Made Easier

March 25th, 2011 @ 11:09 am by Mrs. Elephant

I’m not gonna lie, assigning tables was not something that I looked forward to doing. Making sure people sat with people that they knew as well as filling in all of the extra spots was a little daunting. The hardest guests were the ones that knew no one else (other than my parents). As the RSVPs came rolling in, I started to work on the escort cards and visualize how our groupings of 10 would go.

Perfect Table Plan made the task a little easier as I was able to import my Excel guest list and play around with table groups. When Mama Elephant wanted to make some changes (and there were more then a couple), it was a simple drag and drop to switch up the seating.

I found it so easy that I also used it to plan out how we wanted our rehearsal dinner room to be set up.

The team at Blue Mesa took the layout, said no problem, and will have our room set up before we arrive! I’ll probably still get there a little early so I can set up the escort cards, fingerprint tree, and wedding quilt.

How will you do seating at your wedding? Open, assigned tables, or assigned seats?

This is wonderful!
We will be having assigned tables. I think it will be easier then trying to assign seats. That is a little too formal for our style.

I used the guest manager on The Knot because it also had a table seat assigner. I could just click and drag people around as necessary. I am a suscriber to the JNWhite approach of assigning tables. Everyone worked out their own seats at each table. I also did a mixture of 8-person and 6-person tables so that I could make combinations that made sense without being locked in to specific numbers. It worked like a charm!

Did you use the free trial or pay to download the full version? Not sure if the full is really necessary…

Oh Miss Elephant, where were you about 2 months ago!? We could have used this! My son-in-law made a huge Excel mistake and my daughter (the bride) was up until 2am the night before the wedding trying salvage the mess and re-do the escort cards. In the end, more than one guest ended up with the same seat! Thankfully everyone took it well, laughed it off & sat down somewhere to enjoy the rest of the wedding. Still, when it’s my son’s turn, I think I’ll invest in this program! T h a n k s !

Open tables. Catering needs to know who is eating what, which is the only reason we’re using escort cards instead of simple table assignments.

That program is pretty cool! We are doing assigned tables but the problem is that with my cork palce card holders I think it will be easier to have them already at the table versus finding another table to display them on. I just have to find a way to let people know they aren’t stuck at that seat.

@carly5482: I think it depends on all of the features that you need on if the free or the pay for download will be best. :)

We’re definitely assigning tables, but are still torn on whether it would be helpful to assign seats as well. Love Perfect Table Plan!

I couldnt imagine dealing with this. We’re doing open seating. Every wedding we’ve been do has done it this way, with a few tables reserved for family and wedding party

Just celebrated our 5 year anniversary and I still remember trying to figure out the seating. No easy task!
