My dress had been waiting on me for a long time. I bought it over a year before the wedding, hung it up in my old room at my parents’ house, and only tried it on when I visited them every few months.
It had been neglected for quite some time, but now…it was time for the dress to have its moment in the spotlight!
My nieces had finally been allowed to put on their dresses, so they were placated.

(Side note: Morgan’s incredibly adorable sash was made by How Joyful!)

And it was my turn to put MY dress on. I won’t lie, I was secretly just as anxious as the little ones were to get dressed, I was just much better at hiding it!

I jumped into the dress, and Sister Cardy came over to help me zip it up.

I felt the dress zip up, and then I waited as she looked for the hook at the top of the zipper.

And I waited…

…and then I started to get a little nervous.

Sister Cardy announced that she officially could NOT find the hook at the top of the zipper. We all knew it was there somewhere, but it was hiding—and hiding very well!
I have to say that this series of photos is one of my favorites from the whole day. We were about to walk out the door to go do formal portraits, nerves were running high all throughout the room, and my damn dress was being so stubborn! We stood there for at least five minutes searching (well, they searched. I waited).

(I love the look of utter confusion on everyone’s faces!)
There was a bit of nervous giggling on my part when the reality sunk it that I might be tugging at my dress all night, something I was really hoping to avoid.

And then finally I heard Sister Cardy shriek, “I found it!” and we all did a little victory dance.

I felt a wave of relief wash over me, and I was finally ready.
I put on the finishing touches, which ended up just being some earrings that I borrowed from Sister Cardy. I had ordered a necklace from Etsy that I had planned on wearing, but it didn’t come in on time. I honestly had no idea what jewelry I would be wearing until the moment I was getting dressed. In fact, our photographer’s assistant was the one who helped me decide to just go with the earrings and nothing else, just moments before we walked out the door. Talk about last minute planning!
And finally, it was time to leave the room I’d been confined to all day and take some family photos! But first, Melanie drug me out to the living room of the suite for some bridal shots.
Cardy Wedding Tip: Make sure your bridesmaids and/or mom are familiar with your dress BEFORE the wedding day! If Sister Cardy had seen the hook and eye for the zipper before that day, she probably wouldn’t have had as hard of a time finding it. It also probably wouldn’t have taken us 20 minutes to bustle my dress during the reception. Whoops!
Did you have a hard time putting on your dress?
