Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
About Mrs. Cardigan

Take My Sweater: Becoming a Bride : wedding austin pictures pro pics recap 12 1

My dress had been waiting on me for a long time. I bought it over a year before the wedding, hung it up in my old room at my parents’ house, and only tried it on when I visited them every few months.

It had been neglected for quite some time, but now…it was time for the dress to have its moment in the spotlight!

My nieces had finally been allowed to put on their dresses, so they were placated.

(Side note: Morgan’s incredibly adorable sash was made by How Joyful!)

And it was my turn to put MY dress on. I won’t lie, I was secretly just as anxious as the little ones were to get dressed, I was just much better at hiding it!

I jumped into the dress, and Sister Cardy came over to help me zip it up.

I felt the dress zip up, and then I waited as she looked for the hook at the top of the zipper.

And I waited…

…and then I started to get a little nervous.

Sister Cardy announced that she officially could NOT find the hook at the top of the zipper. We all knew it was there somewhere, but it was hiding—and hiding very well!

I have to say that this series of photos is one of my favorites from the whole day. We were about to walk out the door to go do formal portraits, nerves were running high all throughout the room, and my damn dress was being so stubborn! We stood there for at least five minutes searching (well, they searched. I waited).

(I love the look of utter confusion on everyone’s faces!)

There was a bit of nervous giggling on my part when the reality sunk it that I might be tugging at my dress all night, something I was really hoping to avoid.

And then finally I heard Sister Cardy shriek, “I found it!” and we all did a little victory dance.

I felt a wave of relief wash over me, and I was finally ready.

I put on the finishing touches, which ended up just being some earrings that I borrowed from Sister Cardy. I had ordered a necklace from Etsy that I had planned on wearing, but it didn’t come in on time. I honestly had no idea what jewelry I would be wearing until the moment I was getting dressed. In fact, our photographer’s assistant was the one who helped me decide to just go with the earrings and nothing else, just moments before we walked out the door. Talk about last minute planning!

And finally, it was time to leave the room I’d been confined to all day and take some family photos! But first, Melanie drug me out to the living room of the suite for some bridal shots.

Cardy Wedding Tip: Make sure your bridesmaids and/or mom are familiar with your dress BEFORE the wedding day! If Sister Cardy had seen the hook and eye for the zipper before that day, she probably wouldn’t have had as hard of a time finding it. It also probably wouldn’t have taken us 20 minutes to bustle my dress during the reception. Whoops!

Did you have a hard time putting on your dress?

Even though one of my bridesmaids came with me to a fitting and got careful, thorough instruction about how to lace me into my dress (corset back), she forgot everything on the day of and it took FOR-EV-ER for her to figure it out! All I could do was stand there and laugh.

Great photos! I love your decision to go with just the earrings, no necklace… especially with your headpiece as well. It keeps the focus on your dress, hair and beautiful profile!

That’s a great tip Cardy. You’ve just inspired me to try to bring a good friend along to my final fitting. I’m sure both myself and my friends will thank you for it. :)

Aww..Mrs. Cardy…I love these pics! :)
(not to mention, it’s just nice to see another real bride that’s wearing the same dress as I will be along with a ribbon headband too)).

p.s. I love that you matched your Bee name to go with your wedding day…awesome! :)

I can only hope I feel as happy and confident in my dress as you do on your day! :) (I went to my 2nd/final fitting the other day and feel MUCH better about it than I did initially). Thanks for sharing your post. :)

Let me just tell you, we have super similar and awesome taste! :) Our wedding is also going to be yellow and grey, with a little teal thrown in for fun. I’ve been looking for a yellow cardigan since the beginning of our planning and I cannot find one I love. But I love yours! Can I please know where you found it?
Congrats on a beautiful wedding and relationship!

The series of photos where you all are tying to find that hook and eye is priceless! And I just adore your cardigan! I was a cardigan bride myself and not only did it look AWESOME in photos but it kept me warm! ;)

We had the exact same problem! Except I could totally hook it myself cause I knew where the hooks were by feel (I mean, I’m the one who tried it on at all the fittings!) but my mom and sisters wanted that iconic shot of the last zip-up so they wouldn’t let me do it. I finally did it myself.

no one went with my sister(she always went when no one was available) and the day of the wedding it took us forever to figure out how to bustle her dress. we were under it, lifting it up everything. there are pictures of me following her around holding her train at the reception while she was going from table to table since we couldn’t figure it out. after about 10 mins we finally figured it out! i’m bring at least 3 girls and my mom to learn my dress!! lol
