All the Colors of the Wind

Let’s talk palettes.

Yes, this is our wedding palette. It has evolved slightly since I first started the whole wedding-planning process but, in essence, it has remained the same. I went into this thinking I wanted “purple” and “green.” Clearly, I was not versed in the world of wedding planning. Oh, I need to choose different shades of those colors? That makes sense.

Now, I think that this color combination can be a bit tricky and, when done incorrectly, possibly downright ghastly. But when done right, it is beautiful.

I think that my additions of the light grays and silvers, the ivory, and the different shades of purple help to mellow the contrast a bit. For some reason, when I first pictured “purple” and “green,” I imagined a field of lavender in the setting sun, and I think (hope) that the above palette achieves that feel. Like this one. Swoon. Don’t you just want to roll around in it?

I had originally thought to add some sort of rusty orange, but I don’t think that is working as well anymore, particularly with our venue (think: lots of deep, foresty greens). I am OK with that. I think. I am a bit worried that our palette is a maybe a little…bland? Not sure. I do love it, though!

If you have planned/are planning a wedding, how did your palette evolve over time? Was it due to your decisions or things beyond your control (e.g., venue decor, colors)? Did you choose your palette based on your venue?

Our palate evolved from purple and green also, and my wedding is also in the Seattle area (olympic peninsula). I started with the general purple and green idea, and it has evolved to plum, many shades of green, gray and fuchsia accents. It is turning out lovely. Your palate is beautiful. Happy August Seattle weddings!

I love these colors! I like the subtlety of the grays and silvers, as they will allow the purple to pop. And perfect for a setting with lots of greenery! Great choice.

I like it! I think purple and green look great together, and if it feels bland to you, you can always add a more vibrant purple. But I think it will be great.

I have to share this with you. I wish I could have it for my bouquet: http://weddings.theknot.com/Real-Weddings/62995/detailview.aspx?type=3&id=62995&&wedding+details=Bridal+Bouquets%2cBridesmaid+Bouquets&Sort=KnotPicks&pageindex=11

oh my goodness! I couldn’t even take the time to read the post before I replied - that is almost my exact palette - all made from boards from 100 Layer Cake as well! I am adding a deeper purple though too, but goodness, i LOVE it and i am so excited to see someone else with a similar palette

I love that photo, it makes me ache for spring like you wouldn’t believe! Our colors stayed mostly the same, except we switched out black for charcoal to make the wedding a bit less formal.
