Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!

Take My Sweater: Somethings

March 28th, 2011 @ 6:40 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

I have to admit, I didn’t really put that much effort into making sure that I had the “somethings” for my bridal outfit. It wasn’t something I was particularly concerned with, and considering all of the other stuff I had to do, it ended up falling pretty low on the priority list.

However, on the day of the wedding I was surprised to find that I really did have all of the somethings!

Something old…

My cardigan that I wore for part of our formal portraits. Believe it or not, I’ve had this cardigan for quite a while now – Sister Cardy gave it to me for Christmas one year and it’s a total coincidence that it matches my Weddingbee icon perfectly!

Something new…

Both pairs of my never-been-worn shoes. The Chucks were really new as I had just been given them that morning by Mr. Cardigan! Also in the “new” category was my dress, obviously.

Something borrowed…

Both the bracelet and headband were borrowed from fellow bees! The headband was from Mrs. Cola (and was made by Mrs. Star!) and the bracelet was from Mrs. Frozen Yogurt (and has also been in another bee wedding)! I loved having little pieces of my fellow bees with me on my wedding day—it was very special to me!

Also borrowed were the earrings I wore—they were Sister Cardy’s and I decided to borrow them about two days before the wedding!

Something blue…

I don’t actually have any good photos of the garter that I wore, but it was technically old (older than my cardigan, if that wasn’t old enough for you!), borrowed (from MIL Cardigan), and blue! I didn’t do a garter toss, but this was the garter that MIL Cardy wore in her wedding and she asked if I’d be interested in wearing it anyways. Of course, I said yes!

And, I even managed to cover the lesser-known part of the rhyme: a silver sixpence in my shoe.

Did you/do you plan to have all of the “somethings” in your bridal outfit?

Oooh! Did your sixpence stay stuck? My mom is going to give me hers, but I have open toed shoes. I was wondering if tape would work!

I have all of them covered, even the sixpence. My mom will be taking care of the sixpence part.

I *cannot* believe your cardigan matching your icon so perfectly is complete coincidence. That’s incredible.

I did the sixpence thing too, passed down from my grandma when she wore it in her shoe at her own wedding! But mine was pinned into my dress, since it would have slid out of my d’orsays. I hadn’t thought of taping it to the bottom. Clever!

I’m still struggling with the “something old” and a little with “something borrowed”. New and blue are all covered though.

I did the whole sixpence in my shoe thing and just as I took my first steps on my Father’s arm the sixpence fell out…

Cue much laughter and (a little concern) as we all scrambled round looking for it on the stones!

@Lames: It worked perfectly! Actually, I think it might STILL be taped to the bottom of the shoes, because I haven’t worn them since the wedding!!
@organicgal: They’re from J.Crew! They’re the “Carmen” shoes in saffron - they’re a bit hard to come by now (they’re from a few seasons ago) but sometimes they show up on Ebay!

I also had a sixpense (it was my mom’s from her wedding)… I kept it in my shoe, and it actually stayed there all night! :) I cannot believe you already owned that sweater!

I loved that you included the six pence. I really wanted to do that, but never got around to finding six pence.

I was wondering how the “sixpence in her shoe” would work. A loose coin in a shoe has the capacity to drive one nuts. Your yellow cardigan is just perfect!

I taped mine to the bottom too. One of my friends came from London for the wedding and brought one over.

I bought a sixpence for my best friend on my last day of living in England. I knew she was going to be engaged soon and it ended up happening the next day!!! It has been past through our circle of close friends and I will most definitely be wearing it too! All the girls have taped it with no problems!

Mrs. Cardy, those yellow satin peep toe shoes are soooo pretty. You must west these again…they’re too good. :)
