Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NC Age and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Researcher Engagement Date: December 1, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Barn at Valhalla About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!
About Mrs. Magic

If you’re not interested in trying your hand at couponing, there are still other easy ways to save money. Using sites such as Groupon and Living Social is a great way to score awesome deals on many things—some that are even wedding related!

You may have heard of these sites, but here’s how they work. Each day, the site offers a new deal. A certain number of people have to sign up for the deal and then it is “on” and anyone can buy it. I have never seen a deal NOT have enough people sign up for it for the deal to go live.

You can sign up for deals local to you. But, also be aware that sometimes a deal is listed for another city, but is actually available to anyone no matter where you live! Check out this screenshot that I got from Southern Savers!

Groupon National Deals Roundup by Southern Savers

This screenshot lists deals that are open to anyone—you do not have to live in that city to get the deal! It’s a pain to go through and check every city each day to see what is up for grabs, though, so I normally just check into Southern Savers where Jenny posts if there are good deals up for grabs.

It’s important to read the fine print. Sometimes the deal is good for new customers only, or might have an expiration date.

I have seen and bought some great deals specifically for our wedding! So without further ado, here they are!

Deal #1: I paid $30 and got $75 worth of merchandise from a fabric and sewing shop in town. I am using that material to make napkin rings and bunting.

Deal #2: A 16 x 20 personalized canvas print for $28 and free shipping. I am going to get this pic done of us to go with our tree theme!

Deal #3: Hot yoga to get my butt in shape before the big day! I swear I think I will pass out when I do this, but I bought it anyway: 15 Bikram yoga classes for $25!

Deal #4: Coupon for 60% off food and drink at The General Store Cafe. They are our caterers, so we can now go eat some of their yummy food anytime at a great discount!

Other potentially awesome wedding deals I have seen include hair-salon discounts, spa deals, wholesale flowers on sale, and dance lessons for only a fraction of the regular cost. I am totally waiting for those dance-lesson deals to roll back around, and then I am snatching them up and the mister and I are going to learn how to do a bit more than the seventh-grade sway.

There is also Living Social Escapes! This site offers heavily discounted vacation packages. Right now there is one for an all-inclusive resort in Cancun! I’m gonna go drool over that and imagine myself far away from this freakish Southern winter!

Do you use Groupon or Living Social? What are some of your fave deals that you have scored?

I have used both Groupon and Living Social. I bought two coupons for $50 worth of product from Gimme Some Sugar, a bakery in the Vegas area, for $25 each. We are using these to buy cake pops for the kids for the wedding reception. I also boutht a groupon for a $10 shutterbook, this is for my mom for Mother’s day. We also got a getaway from Living Social for the future hubs 30th b-day in May. I also got a groupon for cupcakes from a local bakery in San Diego for his birthday. Currently I am watching for deals for restaurants and shows in Vegas for our honeymoon.

Now I just have to tell you that Mr. Lox and I are taking dance lessons right now that we bought for about a 55% discount on Groupon. $20 each for a 4 week class? Yes please!

We bought our engagement photo session on Groupon for something like $30. It came with all of the high-resolution images and we loved the pictures!

I am obsessed with Groupon and Living Social, and Bloomspot among others that are out there. I have scored a few coupons to help with the big day…hair cuts, mani/pedi, facials and I am stalking the sites hoping for a limo one. One was offered in my area but it expired before our wedding day. :( Ideeli just had a bunch of wedding sales on their site as well!

Love it! We bought half of our wine through Groupon, I bought a night at a B&B for FI’s birthday (shhh, it’s a secret!!), and a gift certificate to a restaurant on our honeymoon. We like being cheap :-)

I love these group discount websites. So far, for the wedding I’ve scored a professional photobooth for half price ($600 for 4 hours, including staff person), half off ($30 for $15) at the store where I bought supplies for my favors, and super cheap private dance lessons for me and FI for our first dance.

My #1 tip for using these sites is to subscribe to a deal aggregator so you get just one email a day listing all the deals
for your city. I’m in Toronto and use http://www.dealbot.net

Sweet deal on hot yoga. Retailmenot saved me money on a) paper lanterns, b) champagne glasses (we bought and re-sold) and c) cloth napkins (again, we bought and re-sold)

When I sign into my Groupon account I have about a page full of deals I’ve bought. So far I’ve only used a couple of them as most of the stuff I’ve bought is wedding related, so I’m saving them. I love both sites. My state has their own site which I’ve scored great deals on too!

A friend and I bought a LS deal for regular yoga. Mr. PaC spotted one for paintball and several of our coupled friends are joining him for a semi-bachelor party event. I’m passing, much to my chagrin, since my bruises take FOR-ever to go away.

We *just* started using Groupon this past year, and I’m kicking myself for not signing up sooner! We scored a great deal for Mr. Tartlet’s suit on that site!

I love this..I always check groupon & the like for philly, new york, and new jersey…but I never thought about how I could score a national online deal by checking out all the offers online in one spot! Most of the groupons/deals I’ve bought have been for the wedding…. but THANK YOU for revolutionizing the way I seek out wedding-day deals :)

I love Groupon.

For a long time I felt I was missing the whole Groupon daily deal boat because I live in a remote area. But after a little bit of research I was able to find http://steals4all.com which gathers all the daily NATIONAL Groupon deals that I can buy regardless of where I live.

I really needed some wedding budget tips…I am so glad you shared some pointers here. But one thing… on what basis does one decide on a wedding budget?

I like Groupon, LS and Dealpop - with Dealpop you don’t have to have a minimum. Got the bridal party some fold up flats for the reception there - and I see it’s on the LA site now, along with hot air balloon rides for $99 - wish I could get that too for a getaway!

I recently started using LS. I’ve bought 2 deals so far, both of which have been things I would have probably bought anyways so it’s worked out pretty well so far for us.
