About Mrs. Candy Apple

Bubbly

March 29th, 2011 @ 2:07 pm by Mrs. Candy Apple

There have been many decisions that we’ve had to make during the wedding-planning process. Location, venue, flowers. The choices NEVER END! Seriously. It blows my mind how many decisions we have to make for one single day. And frankly, some of them are annoying having to figure out!

Things like alcohol, though? That’s the fun stuff.

When thinking about our wedding, I always imagined myself with an adorable glass of champagne in my hand. Something I could raise for the toasts, smiling graciously and tilting my head just so. Like something from Mad Men.

But in all honesty? Mr. Candy Apple and I really don’t like champagne. OK, correction: I think champagne is all right, and Mr. Candy Apple hates it. We’re just not huge fans; we would much rather drink a good Malbec, or a nice frosty micro-brew.

So, we’ve decided not to do a champagne toast. We’re just not that into it, and it will save money. Win-win, right? People can just toast with what they have in their glasses, which means that people who aren’t fans of champagne don’t have to drink something they don’t want, or take a teensy sip and leave the rest.

Did you have a champagne toast at your wedding, or did you go the “whatever’s in your glass” route? If you did have champagne, did everyone drink it? If you didn’t, were people disappointed?

Also to note: I just realized that I’ve been referring to being tipsy and alcohol a lot in these posts! Don’t worry, I actually rarely ever drink. That may be why, on the occasion that I do partake in a delicious beverage, I get slightly tipsy off of one.

We’re only serving beer and wine, so people will just have to toast with those!

We’re going the ‘whatever is in your glass’ route too. We’re offering wine table side so most people will have something to toast with either way.

We would be going the “whatever’s in your glass” route but it’s included in our reception hall’s catering fee whether we want it or not.. so it’s getting poured one way or another haha!

we’re big beer people so we were going to have some super special belgium beer as our toast- one that comes in champagne bottles and is super bubbly but is actually beer. i think people will be surprised and it’s very us.

We are not big champagne people either, but we found an awesome sparkling white port that we love. We are going to use that to toast instead of champagne. We are lucky we can supply our own alochol because that stuff is big bucks. But everyone who has tried it, really likes it!

Our reception package includes a champagne toast, but if it didn’t I don’t think we would bother. We would definitely just go with the “whatever is in your glass” route!

Mine comes in the package. Sometimes I wonder why I’m doing an open bar when I don’t even drink but oh well. If mine didn’t come with a champagne toast, you best believe I’m not spending any extra money on that!

We’re only having one because it is included in our package. If it wasn’t we probably wouldn’t have spent the extra money on it since not everyone enjoys it.

We’re going the “whatever’s in your glass” route. I love the super-sweet champagnes, but even then can’t drink a lot of it because of how bubbly it is!

That’s the route we’re going - I hate any drink with bubbles in it (pop = bleargghhhhhhhh) so champagne is definitely not on my list to drink at my wedding!

We just found a local meadery, and are toying with the idea of wedding mead, but in fairness to people who don’t like that (it’s pretty sweet, so I love it) I think ‘what’s in your glass’ will be the way we go.

@Miss Cinnamon Bun: Oooh, mead! That would be a cool thing to do.

I am super jealous of everyone with their ‘champagne toast included’!! Jerks.

I love champagne and miss it when it’s not an option at weddings and other festive occasions, so we definitely had the champagne toast.

A lot of it went to waste, though, as most of our guests were apparently not fans and instead opted to toast with whatever was in their glass.

I looooooooove champagne. I is my favourite tipple. But even so, I’m going with whatever is in your glass. If anyone wants champagne they will get some from the bar. It just seems silly to me to pour champagne for everyone when some will not drink it.

We’re not so into champagne either. Give me a nice glass of red wine anytime :)

Wow, I love those champagne glasses! I never even thought of sprucing them up like that.

We like champagne, so we’re doing one, but I think it’s perfectly fine to do whatever is in your glass. Better if you’re having kids too, so they don’t feel left out.

The only reason we’re including a champagne toast is because it is part of our package. We could take or leave it, but thankfully we’ll be raising a glass.

we’re tempted to do a tequila shot toast but im a tad worried about the cost and the tone that will set for the rest of the night…

We had champagne punch as a signature drink, and had a glass of that for the bridal party at their tables for the toast. The other guests had to fend for themselves! ;) Most of them did seem to pick up the champagne punch at the bar before the toast. We just didn’t think the bridal party (ourselves included) would have time to get anything from the bar pre-toast.

My husband’s side of the family does not drink at all, so we actually did sparkling cider for the toast so everyone (including the kids) could participate!

Ugh I TRIED so hard to convince futre FIL that champagne was NOT needed and that everyone could just raise the glass they had but he was so insistant that our wedding would just suck without it. You would think we would LOVE the fact that I was trying to save him money!! But since he offered to pay for the bar I obviously let him do what he wanted.
