About Mrs. Magic

Thank You…

March 30th, 2011 @ 3:40 pm by Mrs. Magic

…for agreeing to buy this dress that you will never, ever wear again.

That’s what I told my bridesmaids when we went to David’s Bridal the other day. I had looked at the David’s Bridal website and saw that they had a dress similar to the cute pocket dress I blogged about here…and David’s Bridal had it for $99!

They had other cute dresses, too, like these.

So the girls tried on a bunch to see what they liked best. One interesting thing about the David’s Bridal dressing rooms is that they do not have mirrors in the rooms…so you are forced to go outside the room to see what you look like. It’s kinda weird. Anyway, the girls looked lovely in the dresses…see?

This dress is in the color Sangria, which might be the color we go with.

I even got in on the act myself. I tried on the charmeuse strapless pocket dress, thinking I could get it in white and wear it at the rehearsal.

And I loved it! But the even better news is this: David’s Bridal has a policy where if the bride buys her dress at DB, then each bridesmaid can get $20 off her dress. And, the above dress is listed as a bridal gown. I called and asked if this dress was eligible for the coupon booklet, and they said even though it was not supposed to be (I guess too inexpensive?), they would let me have it. Score!

I felt really relieved that we found some affordable options that the girls liked. We don’t have to place the order until July, so I might keep an eye out and see if anything better rolls around (hello, Anthropologie, I’m talkin’ ’bout you here!), but if not, I think these will work well.

I swear, this is such a relief. Did you feel like the bridesmaids’ dress hunt was a challenge? What was most important to you: price, style, or something else?

David’s Bridal has great deals. I have worn their dresses in 3 weddings that I have been in. You can’t beat the prices!!

All my girls got the second dress pictured above and they love them! (black dresses with the dyable shoes dyed in watermelon) They even said they would wear it again on a night out. And the dress is on sale for $99 right now : )

HAHA my BMs got dress 2 you posted in Marine. Love it. I also have been Anthropologie shopping compulsively. I think I’ve bought 2 different rehearsal dresses… I’m sure I can use the other for something else haha.

I really like the dress on the far left in the middle photo - the neckline is so unique! Cute choices!

My bridesmaids are wearing this dress and another from David’s Bridal. Both are in silk charmeuse and have pockets. They are wearing the apple color. I went with David’s Bridal from the begining, because I wanted to keep the costs as low as possible because they also have travel costs.

My bridesmaids chose the middle dress you posted. It looks so flattering on them and it’s something they can wear again after the wedding.

the dress that your girl has on in sangria is what my maids got but in lapis. One of my BMs has it in black and she has worn it numerous times after the wedding she wore it in. I kinda want one for myself!

I adore that pocket dress from DB and have thought about purchasing it on many occasions! All of your BMs look beautiful!

Cute! Finding the BM dresses was harder for me than finding my dress. Love what you chose, and what a bargain!

The first dress you showed is actually my BM dresses! I have girls from size 5 to size 22 and that dress looked lovely on all of them! DB made it really easy to choose!

I don’t understand why brides don’t buy the dresses for their bridesmaids anymore. You want them to wear it, and if it’s only $80, I say you chalk it up to wedding expenses and gift them the dresses.

My bridesmaids are wearing the strapless pocket dress in Sangria. The dress loved great on everyone and was affordable. My only problem is matching other wedding things to the Sangria–so basically my color scheme is purplish/pinks. lol

@JessiTask: Oh yay, another Sangria bride! Our color scheme has morphed into “Fall…on acid.” So, sangria plus oranges and yellow golds, some green…who knows. Might be a disaster. Hope not!

Finding the BM dresses was surprisingly easier than I had thought! I had bookmarked a navy cocktail dress online at Lord & Taylor, but at $178 I thought it was a bit more than I wanted them to spend… then lo and behold, one morning I looked at it again and it was on mega-sale! PLUS the site was having a 20% off everything and free shipping sale. With all the discounts, it worked out to approximately $42 per dress! So we snapped them up instantly, and thank goodness they look really great on everyone. I’m still so grateful for how lucky we were! I’m glad yours worked out too! :)

The Sangria dress is one of my BM dresses for a wedding this summer, and it is definitely cute. My one caution is for your girls to really stand up for themselves on the sizing. At my DB the consultant pushed me into ordering a huge size by insisting that they could always alter it down, but I shouldn’t risk spillover! Then, when the dresses came in and mine wouldn’t even stay up, they quoted me for more than the price of the dress just to get it taken in!
Took that sucker to a better seamstress who took in those three extra inches for $25!

@LC Was it once the norm to buy dresses for bridesmaids? It is a nice gesture if it pleases you and is within your budget.

However, I have purchased many a bridesmaid dress to wear in other weddings…so it does even out for the most part. Easiest to follow protocol. Considerate to provide an affordable option.

Also, in general, many people don’t wear special occasion dresses more than once…..with the exception of really well made designer dresses and the perfect LBD, you usually select something new when a special event comes around. My point being…these very close girlfriends and family members would probably be buying a new dress for this occasion no matter what…just so happens that if they agree to be a part of the party, it needs to be coordinated and selected by a leader and/or consensus of a group which is what brides have to suss out.

Yeah! I love that dress! My bm’s wore the first (and last) dress in marine and the didnt offer it in white until recently. Or that would have fully been my rehearsal dress. Love it! Oh and dont try to put an iron ANYWHERE near the Charmuse (sp?) it will burn and wrinkle it. We found this out the hard way but luckily it was on the underside on the edge of the dress and didnt show.
