Miss Carousel's Picture
Miss Carousel, Dusseldorf, Germany/Garda, Italy Age and Occupation: 29, International Product Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Front End Developer Engagement Date: May 29, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: I’m an American-Italian girl living in Germany with my Belgian fiancé, planning a wedding in Italy. I can’t wait to show our guests the wonderful Lake Garda, Verona, and want our wedding to be a fun filled, charming, day in the life of “La dolce vita.” Mr. C and I love spending time together, and have added wedding related activities to our cooking nights, dance lessons, and road trips. We love sampling restaurants, could listen to Sinatra all day, and are just a tad geeky and into technology. As we want all of our passions to be part of our marriage, what better way to start than by incorporating them in our wedding day?
About Miss Carousel

When we first defined our wedding budget, Mr. Caro and I did not even discuss the option of having a videographer as we didn’t think we’d need one.

Once I realized how common it is to have a professional wedding video, I started wondering if we should consider it as well—but I quickly changed my mind. I found all the videos I saw too cheesy, too cool/fake, or too amateurish. It just didn’t seem to be our thing, so we opted to spend more on photography instead and I was quite content with the decision.

That is, until I saw this video from Winston Tao. This video succeeded where all others had failed: it moved me to tears. Even Mr. Caro got emotional watching it! You should also check it out; I am sure it will brighten your day.

Dennis & Patricia (Wedding Trailer) from Winston Tao on Vimeo.

I fell head over heels in love with this video. The lighting, the colors, the people, the love—everything is so authentic and beautiful. I almost felt as if I were in the video with them! This is the only wedding video so far that has made me think: wow, this is worth it! I checked out the videographer behind it, and imagine my surprise when I found out that it was a film student from Orange County, California.

As I now could see the value of videography, I started looking at vendors in Italy. Unfortunately, I could find no one who could even come close to matching the talent and skills that I’d seen in that video. This is when I decided that I might as well contact Winston directly: I figured these American students are always at some point or another traveling through Europe and that in any case he’d probably be glad to know he had a fan.

I wrote to him and asked him if he’d consider coming to Italy to be my videographer: imagine my happiness and surprise when he answered that he’d love it and that he’d be happy to work with me to find an arrangement that would suit us both!

I wish this story had a happy ending, but unfortunately it doesn’t. Even with Winston being very flexible about his fee, we realized that we’d not be able to afford to pay for all his travel. We were counting on some external help that never came, so we sadly had to come to the conclusion that we would have to do without videography.

Did you ever have to turn down an amazing perfect incredible deal because you just could not fit it in your budget?

I like it, but I still think Mrs. Kitten’s wedding video is the best ever.

I’ve seen this one before. Her hair is gorgeous! The song is Coldplay’s “Fix You”…

OMG…this is one more concrete piece of evidence that we absolutely HAVE to have a videographer. Winston indeed has a very good eye.

I have scoured the web for Winston’s contact info and cannot find it. Would you mind sharing with me? I am in Orange County and looking for a videographer myself. Thanks!

Check out SMP - I’m pretty sure they featured a wedding over there a day or two ago that was in Italy, and had a videographer! Sorry, I should have made a note and linked you over to it…but hopefully you find something there!

I, like you, think that wedding videography is usually just really cheesy and not me at all, but this video is gorgeous. Definitely cried, too.

That was a beautiful video. I saw another video company in Atlanta that does amazing stuff and I thought I would share this link http://walkonwatervideo.com/Chisholm_Wedding_Ceremony.html

The style is different but it sure does look like a Hollywood productions

@Leia: @heather25: As plantains said you can reach him via email at twintaoers at gmail.com, I’m sure he’d love to hear from you!
@jenandchris: Thank you very much for the tip, I’ll check it out! It might still be possible :-)
@Mrs.Sunflower: LOL I had not considered that but why not, who needs that extra kidney anyway?

Nice video, but you obviously haven’t heard of StillMotion. Check them out sometime. They do incredible, moving, and expensive work.

and this is one of my favorite same day edits that they did:

Not to be the downer, but if you’re impressed with that, be prepared to be blown away with Still Motion. They have an uncanny ability to capture raw emotion and tell stories through their videos.

This one happens to be a favorite of mine, it’s a same day edit that they did.
