Mrs. Pancakes, New York/Costa RicaAge and Occupation: 26, Law School StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Latin American Policy AnalystEngagement Date: March 12, 2010Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: Casa Punto de VistaAbout Me: I’m a perfectionist with a big heart. I love a good laugh and firmly believe no one has ever regretted being prepared! My motto is “go big or go home.” I am incapable of doing anything in moderation, especially when it comes to shopping, TV, food and travel, and some would say wedding planning! The other half of this nearlywed team is a laid-back, adventure-loving, accident prone, sweetie from LA. He makes me laugh, is always down for an impromptu dance party, and totally indulges most of my hare-brained schemes. Now, in my final year of law school, we’ll be spending the spring abroad in Amsterdam and planning a DIY, whimsical, detail-filled destination wedding in Costa Rica!
Mr. P and I are soon-to-be a homeless married couple. Right now, we live in an adorable one-bedroom in the center of Amsterdam, overlooking a lovely canal filled with swans and ducks, but come May 2nd we’ll be HOMELESS! The reason I am telling you all this is because I LOVE vintage plates. I am head over heels obsessed with vintage plates. BUT, since we don’t have a home, we really aren’t in a position to accept a lot of traditional gifts. We literally have no idea where we’ll be from May to October but chances are that we’ll be living out of suitcases and a storage unit. (***I would love to be in Latin America, but we may be in NYC, DC or LA.) That being said, we have to be careful about what we buy and what we register for. Read more…
Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NCAge and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social WorkerFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, ResearcherEngagement Date: December 1, 2009Wedding Date: October 2011Venue: Barn at ValhallaAbout Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!
And not a talent that I have, either. Sidenote: when I was younger, I convinced myself that I was a super awesome skier and that skiing was My Talent. When I finally went skiing at the age of 20, I realized that this was not true. I am not a secret talented skier, nor am I a secret talented flower-arranging fool.
Let’s start at the beginning.
I’m kind of lazy. So even though I knew that a farmers’ market existed in town, and in the next town, and in the capital nearby, um, I never quite made it over there. Until there was a ring on my finger!
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
I’m interrupting our regularly scheduled—OK, randomly scheduled—recaps to talk about our registry. We are hitting the 6 month mark soon, which is totally crazy; time is flying by. Hitting the sixth month mark actually means something…it means registry completion discounts expire.
After six months, you have an idea of how you feel about your registry picks. You also start questioning whether you actually need all those leftover items you went six months without.
I’ve realized there are some items we received that I can’t live without, some items we received but could live with out, some we wish we had registered for, those we almost didn’t register for (but we’re glad we did), and those we haven’t used a lot, but are looking forward to testing out. Mrs. Cinnamon Bun, Calgary, AlbertaAge and Occupation: 26, Stage ManagerFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Theatre TechnicianEngagement Date: June 22, 2010Wedding Date: June 2011Venue: Calgary Opera CentreAbout Me: I'm a life-long crafter and bookworm living in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Some of my loves include Lord of the Rings, Sherlock Holmes, knitting, opera, musicals, Etsy, baking, and of course, Mr. Cinnamon Buns. We're keeping our wedding close to home---the venue isn't very far from our house, and we live within walking distance of 6 bridal salons. I'm using the wedding as an excuse to try out every craft project I possibly can, with the endless help and support of my fiance.
So, I figured out how I’m going to make the paper flowers for our wedding, but even paper flowers need leaves. But how would we make the leaves? Cinnamon Buns and I had talked about it, and we both agreed that we didn’t want leaves that were trying too hard to be leaves. We definitely aren’t going for realism, as we’re making flowers out of printed paper! We thought that “realistic” silk leaves would look a little funny.
I’d had this tutorial in my ‘Floral Alternative’ bookmarks folder for a while, and decided that that was the way to go. I went to a large local fabric store (“Canada’s largest quilt shoppe” according to them!), and bought the following:
Mrs. Hyena, College Station, TXAge and Occupation: 23, Marketing SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Aerospace Engineering Grad StudentEngagement Date: January 8, 2010Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: Downtown 202About Me: I'm a Texas girl who met my future hubby in high school, then headed up to Oklahoma for a college education (BOOMER SOONER!) before moving back to the Lone Star State to be with him. I love reading and recycling, Photoshop and reality TV, making lame jokes and then laughing at them, quoting movies, and Mr. Hyena most of all. I'm perpetually early and I like to get things accomplished. When my cat meows at me, I meow back. We're planning a laid-back, unintentionally DIY wedding with a cocktail-party vibe, and can't wait to celebrate our nuptials with our nearest and dearest!
I love colors—the brighter the better! Maybe that’s the reason I found it really, really difficult to decide on wedding colors. My favorite color has always been hot pink, which Mr. H wasn’t really on board with when we first got engaged. In my indecision I threw so many color combinations at him, he finally gave up and told me to pick whatever I wanted. Uhhhhh…
Mrs. Seashell, Chicago, IL / Providence, RIAge and Occupation: 28, Marriage and Family TherapistFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Electrical EngineerEngagement Date: September 3, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: The Glen Manor HouseAbout Me: Fonts and fashion, stationery and Sundays, photography and french toast... the beauty is in the details for this fun-loving Chicagoan who loves to plan plan plan! The soon-to-be hubs plays "Mr. Fix-It" in our new condo while I swoon over beautiful, personalized stationery and choose shades of aubergine for my bridesmaids' dresses... and thus begins my new fairy tale! Skirting to the East Coast for our September nuptials where my home state of Rhode Island awaits with fall foliage, I'm just a few dress fittings and bachelorette party away from saying "I Do" to a very happy ending!
This cool thing happened with our getting ready photos. Since they’re time stamped, when I put them into my computer in chronological order I was able to see exactly what Mr. Seashell was doing while I was getting ready too. Not surprisingly, he was done and ready to go before me—but he had to be at the chapel first—so, whatever. Read more…
Mrs. Tartlet, Rochester, MIAge and Occupation: Age & Occupation: 27, Post-Doctoral Research FellowFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Medical StudentEngagement Date: May 2, 2009Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: The Royal Park HotelAbout Me: I'm an exuberant gal from the Midwest with a penchant for Neuroscience and anything sparkly. I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself, and I'm a believer that given the right pair of shoes, a girl can conquer the world. While an interest in the sciences threw Mr. Tartlet and me together (again, and again, until it finally stuck), we share a love for many things---food, video games, car dancing, food, bad puns, travel, did I mention food?---that ultimately led us to where we are now, less than five months from becoming Mr. and Mrs. We're planning a laid-back, romantic, garden-inspired affair with organic and quirky touches that reflect our love for the unexpected!
Oh boy. It’s a sure sign of a good night when the vast majority of the photos of you come out looking like this:
Apparently I struck this pose whenever I was laughing and/or embarrassed.
Last weekend my girlfriends planned one prodigious party. It’s so rare for all of our schedules to line up for a night out, so this was a really precious evening for me to have all of my favorite gals in one place. We started out at Bab’s Underground Lounge where upon my arrival I was crowned with a sparkly headband and bequeathed a hot pink boa. I swear they had magical powers because I immediately felt more sassy and daring! Anyone else love bachelorette props as much as I do?
Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VAAge and Occupation: 25, Writer/EditorFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk ManagerEngagement Date: October 3, 2009Wedding Date: April 2011Venue: Oxon Hill ManorAbout Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
I know I said I wanted a side pony, but I changed my mind! I love this low up do my stylist pulled together on a whim when I went for my first hair trial and now I need your opinions!
I had about a dozen pictures of a dozen different hairstyles—making my indecision so very obvious—but somehow we managed (she managed, I should say) to create something fun and simple that will be beautiful on my big day!
Mrs. Waffle, AustinAge and Occupation: 31, Costumer/ArtistFiance's Age and Occupation: 33, AnimatorEngagement Date: July 27, 2010Wedding Date: June 2011Venue: Hummingbird HouseAbout Me: My life is pretty much spent in a sea of fabric, paint, sequins and drama. When I’m not working, I play on a trivia team, take Broadway dance classes, read, buy shoes, and occasionally geek out on video games. I am an American girl who loves all things British and Mr. Waffle is a Brit who loves all things American...I guess it was meant to be!
Soooooo, not that long ago I wrote about the lack of communication I was experiencing with my bridal salon and the fact that my dress was laaaaate, late, late. I wrote about how the very next day I was going to march right over to the salon and get some answers. You all were awesomely supportive and I was looking a bit like this…
Well, I didn’t even have to saunter through their front door because the next day, the day after my little rant was written and posted, they finally called me back to let me know the dress was shipping that day. Woohoo! Read more…
Miss Carousel, Dusseldorf, Germany/Garda, ItalyAge and Occupation: 29, International Product ManagerFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Front End DeveloperEngagement Date: May 29, 2010Wedding Date: September 2011Venue: I’m an American-Italian girl living in Germany with my Belgian fiancé, planning a wedding in Italy. I can’t wait to show our guests the wonderful Lake Garda, Verona, and want our wedding to be a fun filled, charming, day in the life of “La dolce vita.” Mr. C and I love spending time together, and have added wedding related activities to our cooking nights, dance lessons, and road trips. We love sampling restaurants, could listen to Sinatra all day, and are just a tad geeky and into technology. As we want all of our passions to be part of our marriage, what better way to start than by incorporating them in our wedding day?
As I previously wrote, there were a couple of glitches during the process of finding the right theme for us. Then again, it’s not like a theme is really necessary. Nor do I intend to follow mine to the letter now that I have one. But it really helps give a style to all the elements of the wedding and keeps the ideas and the inspiration at bay.
When Mr. Caro and I re-discussed our theme, we started from where we’d left off. We had basically determined that we wanted our colours to be soft and that our wedding keywords were:
Nostalgic
Playful
Charming
Travel
Carnivalesque
We also considered what we had in common and what would describe us as a couple. We started from our geekiness (we’re both a bit geeky), our passion for travel, our interest in historical novels, our love for swing music, and our appreciation for old-style amusement parks.
After some brainstorming and some Googling, we found the basis for all our inspiration: Jules Verne’s collection of novels, Extraordinary Voyages.
Mrs. French Toast, Pleasanton, CAAge and Occupation: 29, Marketing & PRFiance's Age and Occupation: IT geek by day, self-proclaimed handyman by nightEngagement Date: October 2009Wedding Date: March 2011Venue: Palm Event CenterAbout Me: I’m a city girl at heart who moved to the suburbs a year ago. Now I’m adjusting to life with a front lawn, nosy neighbors, cooking attempts, and making sure the garbage pail is pulled out on time every week! When I’m not traveling, Mr. FT and I enjoy marathon sessions of Law & Order: SVU, snowboarding, photography, spoiling our 3-year old yorkie-poodle Mokka and disagreeing over what music to listen to in the car. We’re planning a small winery wedding while incorporating some cultural elements into the day as a nod to our Chinese backgrounds.
I’m not kidding when I say that I’ve been thinking about my last post as a “Miss” to the hive even before I was accepted to be a bee. I always thought that I’d have something clever yet heartfelt to say as I wrapped up my stint as a “Miss” bee blogger. But today as I sit here, I find myself reluctantly writing this post.
Sixteen months ago when I got engaged, March 2011 seemed like such a far away date. I’ve been reading Weddingbee for such a long time, and I was just counting down the days until I could apply to be a bee. In December 2011, I finally received the anticipated acceptance e-mail from Pengy. Since then, wedding planning has been a whirlwind ride as I find myself trying to source more ideas and stories to share with the hive. Your comments are so insightful, supportive and encouraging. It’s like an adrenaline rush each time I see a new comment. This wedding planning would have never been the same with you guys, so thank you, thank you, thank you. Read more…

Mrs. Sparkler, ChicagoAge and Occupation: 27, Communications AficionadoFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, PublisherEngagement Date: July 21, 2010Wedding Date: September 2011Venue: Chicago Illuminating CompanyAbout Me: I’m a Southern lady living in the big city of Chicago. Well, lady may be a stretch, but I’m working hard to keep some Virginia charm in our sleek, urban, wedding-palooza! I’m addicted to marathons, not-so-famous bands, Chicago restaurants, and Mark Twain. I cry during SPCA commercials, and I think LOST was the best show to ever hit television. Mr. S and I met at a classy college mixer and, 7 years later, he’s still by my side. He’s the only child, laid back, free spirit... I’m the oldest of five kids, type-A, organizer. It doesn’t work on paper, but we’ve never paid attention to that stuff anyway. Somehow it works. And like they say, sometimes when you know…you just know.
You would think that after nearly eight years with Sparks, I would have some idea that an engagement was coming. But I didn’t. I had NO clue. I mean, I knew we would get married one day and, to do that, Sparks would eventually have to ask me. But I just never expected it to happen when it did.

Yep, this one’s all about what I would register for if factors like landfills filling up and societal courtesy didn’t exist. Just call me Veruca. Veruca Salt.
