Communication, Honesty, and Lying - Do you ever lie to your spouse? How honest does the honesty in your relationship go?
Ha! When I lie, it always looks like I got caught with my hand in the cookie jar.
I learned to be honest with myself—not just to others—thanks largely to Mr. T. I’ve historically kidded myself about how well relationships were going or how happy I was in various situations. He taught me how to own the good *and* the bad. This helped me immensely in being honest with other people, also, especially him. And it’s helped me make good decisions about how to deal properly (honestly) with crappy things when they come up.
That said, given my four years of training, I appreciate truth and honesty even more.

One of the downsides to having a ginormous wedding is the limited venue choices. I’ve talked about it previously, but as our countdown nears the 100 day mark, I get a little bit sad face when I think about our venue.
You see, if I were positive our wedding would have fewer than 250, I would have been able to be in the other hotel ballroom. The one with actual windows. And a view of the slightly brown and silty gorgeous lake.

Instead, we have the ballroom with no windows. And big fire doors. There are no dramatic vaulted ceilings nor eye catching chandeliers. I’d show you a picture, but I have none of my own and it would be rude to post someone’s wedding photo under this circumstance, not to mention creepy.

“Embrace the season with wedding favors that are perfectly suited for spring! Adorable AND affordable.”
Lots of people love relaxing vacations where they can be pampered and restore their energy. After all the planning and the stress of a wedding, a honeymoon is often the apotheosis of a relaxing vacation.
Mr. Caro and I, however, do not like relaxing too much on our vacations for some reason. After a period of doing nothing (say, two hours on the beach) we get bored and restless. So we are always planning vacations that take us left and right and leave us tireder after the vacation than before. Still, we love it!
This is why we decided to stay true to ourselves and plan a road-trip honeymoon. Where? In the States, of course! I want to be able to see the family that won’t be able to make the trip overseas to be at our wedding, and Mr. Caro has never even been there!

There was a lot of pressure for me to get engaged to Mr. Magic. Some of the pressure came from external sources, some from internal sources (like, you know, my mind). It’s kind of like when you had to identify whether a conflict in a novel was either man versus man, man versus himself, or man versus his environment. This was like a perfect storm of all these conflicts, which resulted in a lot of pressure on me.
So here’s the real deal on how our engagement went down. I know some folks rewrite their “how we met” stories or proposal tales to make them shinier and happier, but life isn’t always 100% shiny and happy. I didn’t edit our lessthanromantichowwemetstory, and I’m going to be honest about our proposal story, too.
Mr. Magic and I reunited at the end of 2004 and basically began living together soon after. Toward the end of 2005, I started talking engagement and marriage. I had just started my new career after graduating from UNC with a masters in social work. We had a house and two cats. I felt like we were already “playing married” and thought we should make it legal. In my mind, I had us getting engaged in 2006 and getting married on October 27, 2007.
Yes, I had picked out the date. And isn’t October 27, 2007 such a lovely date?
This is NOT the part where I say, “Man, was I a crazy girl” because I don’t think that is accurate or fair, nor do I think that statement sums up all the factors coming into play in our situation (which, while unique to us, I think many others can relate to).

This past weekend, my MOH-extraordinaire, two lovely bridesmaids, and my super-fabulously-awesome Mum threw me a Kitchen Tea party. It was all sorts of fun, and I’ll be sure to tell you more about that as soon as I get some of the photographs uploaded. But in the meantime, I thought I’d share a quick and super-easy gift idea with you.
You see, I knew I wanted to give my bridal posse a little somethin’ somethin’ for all of their efforts in planning the shower, but I was a slack bride-to-be and left my planning until the last minute. Of course, by the time the weekend rolled around, I was up to my ears in work and also suffering from a chesty cough o’doom. What’s a girl to do? Well, she’s to BAKE of course! I decided to whip something sweet up in the kitchen, package it up and write a nice card—a gift made with love, sweetness and a whole lot of sugar!
Mission for the day? Snickerdoodles.

I want to talk about one of my favorite wedding trends—the late-night snack.

Without further delay…the final reveal of the Pain au Chocolat save the dates.
Obvs, the names have been changed to protect the soon-to-be-wed.
You know how every once in a while you see photos of a wedding and it just takes your breath away? You know, your heart skips a beat, and then you feel instantly smitten? While you’re drooling over to-die-for photos, you finally realize that you’re knee-deep in your first (…or second or third) wedding crush.
Typically, I find myself wedding crushing over super prettified weddings on super swank wedding sites, that never feel like they’re created by real people.
Well, not this time! I have been drooling over this wedding for a long time, and it’s 100% legit. It’s hard to believe a regular person could pull off something like this, but I promise you it’s true! I’m a little embarrassed to admit it, but time and time again, I go back to look at the photos from this wedding because they’re just so amazing.
I went to college with Brooke and Jim. We had our graphic design classes together, and Brooke is such a creative person that I had secretly been stalking her Facebook dying to see her wedding photos. It all started after she posted the most amazing e-pics I’d ever seen.
Brooke’s wedding inspired some projects for us, but you’ll have to wait for those posts in the future.
With her permission, I’m sharing some of her photos here. All of her photos are by photographer Colin Lyons, of which Brooke only had amazing things to say about. For more of Brooke, visit her Etsy site - I swear, she’s a rock star!
Everything was done with such bright colors! The pinks and oranges make me smile!

While Mr. Taffy and I were having our portraits taken, our guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. The two lovely ladies below are enjoying one of our signature drinks: Champagne Punch. mmmm.

All photos by our fabulous photographer, A Girl In Love.
Something tells me our groomsman was about to order a pint of Bell’s Oberon or Two Hearted Ale. (or both!) These two Michigan beers were also signature drinks. We were happy to serve Michigan beer!

It was sometime in university when I discovered it. When I realized that the definition of all things romantic, sparkly, and beautiful was contained in one place. In one blue box tied with a white ribbon. Tiffany & Co.
I always loved their jewellery, but I never really thought I would ever own anything from there. Then in 2007 I met up with two of my girlfriends to run the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco. The setting was beautiful, and the Ghirardelli chocolates served on the course were delicious! The icing on the cake was that the race medals were beautiful silver necklaces from Tiffany.
I love the wedding Sparks and I are planning. I really, really do. I think the modern, minimalistic, and quirky details represent us to a “T.” But sometimes I miss the early days of our engagement, when there were endless possibilities for the type of wedding we could have. There were quite a few scenarios floating around in my noggin before I decided on our purple and gray affair. Call them “dream weddings,” “couldawouldashoulda,” or “maybe next time” (KIDDING!
). Either way, hive, I now present to you: Other Weddings I Dream About or, I Wish I Could Get Married 5 Times.
1. The Christmas Wedding
Seeing Mrs. Knitting’s gorgeous, winter wonderland photos is almost making me regret not going this route for our wedding (almost). I imagined a reception hall filled with fireplaces, classic Christmas décor, and a rowdy band playing “Jingle Bell Rock.”

Hello there, hive!!! I’m back, and I absolutely cannot wait to relive every moment of our wedding with y’all! In short, it. was. awesome. I loved each and every minute, and everything was 100% more amazing than I ever imagined. Having our families and friends there to not only witness us becoming husband and wife but also celebrate with us was so incredibly special that I simply cannot put it into words. After all the DIY projects and months of planning, King Hippo and I have memories that will last forever, and you just can’t put a price on that. I know I said it before, but it deserves repeating. It. Was. Awesome!
While we wait on our pro pics, I plan to pop back in a bit to share some of the last minute projects I didn’t share before the wedding and a few things I learned from the day, so stay tuned for that. For now, I thought I’d share the preview pics we got from our super awesome photographers, Chavvon & Larissa.
I was completely out of my mind when I thought I’d be able to post regularly while on my trip to Nashville; hello, am I crazy? It was pretty much nonstop wedding planning. The good news is that we knocked out most of the checklist, so Mr. Crepe and I are feeling like superheroes.
One of the things I’ve been working on gradually are random decorating items. Whether it’s the doorway, the buffet tables, or the greeting table, there are plenty of places that need some love. I’ve been adoring the images that have been floating around the internet of tissue paper garlands because they remind me of kids’ birthday parties. And I’ve been injecting child-like charm as much as I can into the reception to keep it from becoming too stuffy. This tissue paper garland is super cheap and easy to make! I got all the tissue paper from Uline.com (actually, their sale section, so it was an even better deal, at about $13 a pack of 480 sheets, WHAT.).
For each streamer/bundle, you’ll need about four stacked sheets of 20×30″ sheets.
